QFi SYD, MEL and BNE comparison

We lack hard data because no one collects punctuality statistics for international airlines operating into and out of Australia, but in relation to QFi, one thing stands out.

The timekeeping problems that affect the B744 and A388 fleets are well known.

However, what hasn't been discussed is how the A330 flights out of BNE seem to have much better timekeeping, and consistently so, than MEL or SYD.

Usually, flights like QF51/61/97 have a very good to excellent timekeeping record. This isn't something one could constantly say about QFi flights ex MEL or SYD with A333s/A332s.

Yet BNE as an airport isn't without its problems.

SYD is worst but MEL, which doesn't play host to many A333s each day, is the one that seems to be highly variable. Sometimes it can be due to fog or other adverse weather, but at times there's no obvious explanation.

Interesting but can I just say that my main concern when I am travelling is not if they are departing exactly on time but are they going to get me to the destination on time. As even with delays depending on the weather you can make up time in flight which in my experience does happen a lot. In saying that they do not make up multiple hours lost.

PJF, I didn't explain it well.

By 'timekeeping', while I was referring specifically to departure time, I also had in the back of my mind arrival time. The latter is the most important.

Yes, on a gate-to-gate basis many flights make up time but it varies markedly.
