Because of better long term parking at the domestic airport in Sydney, I am thinking of checking in at the domestic terminal and then using the internal airport transfer over to the international terminal, doable?

Cheers

If you have baggage I doubt they'll check you in at domestic if you are on an international flight.

HLO would be ok since the T-Bus is free now.

I was thinking that as well, but lugging the suitcases becomes a pain.

Actually, I think you can check your luggage in, but it's a while since I've used it, and it was only one specific counter.

Didn't I read that the landside inter-terminal bus at SYD is going free? In that case you can park there and get on the bus to int anyway.....

yes, ausbt notes is as of March it's free.

I ended up seeking help from Qantas on the subject, no problems with checking in at the domestic and using the internal bus over to the international terminal, maybe I should have asked them in the first place.

That’s good to hear then as it might help others in the same situation. Thanks for updating.

Unless it was Qantas airport staff you reached out to I wouldn't place too much weight on what they say :(

While you can check in at special desks for international connecting flights at domestic terminals, it would be surprising if you could do it that way when originating. But... will be interesting to see how you go!

The queues at international check-in can be very long... more than 30 minutes last time i was there. So by-passing that at domestic would be a nifty trick!

Yes I agree with your assumption, so I will be making further calls. I will update my findings.

I've used the premium service desk for checking in for my connecting international flight. But it was domestic followed by international. So my point is that you don't have to use that dedicated desk if you have status. Even got an Express pass.

Also Sydney international moved to a kiosk self service bag drop system recently too. Same as domestic. So perhaps queues are shorter. I still used F check in last month which all seems hidden to the right now with the new setup. But I didnt notice any snaking lines.

Yes, but remembering I am coming off the street at the domestic airport to check in for an international flight, could be different.

As always it pays to double check these things. "Definitely not" was the answer from the phone conversation I just had with Qantas.

Oh well, back on the bus, after dropping my car off at the long term car park.

As I have said before... call centre staff* are excellent at fares and ticketing. Anything else... visas, complex baggage rules, seating, FF earn, partner airline benefits... not so much.

It’s likely the original agent assumed you meant domestic->international connection (which would be the norm).

Anyway - easy solution with the bus being free these days.

* excludes 'chat' function where agents aren't even good at fares and ticketing issues :(
