Hi all

Booking a return flight Sydney to HK. 14 May out and 17 May back as Q Gold.
I see there are 2 return flights
QF118 (23.25) and QF128 (20.00)

Would like to do a cheap economy there and try to get an upgrade for the return flight back, so I was thinking of getting the Saver flight.

Is there any point in booking the Saver to get the chance, or would I not have a look in with my status.
Which flight would have the best chance of a potential upgrade.
Any ideas on what it would cost in $ or Points.

Thanks
Mike

I checked availability for the coming Thursday and the later flight (118) has massively more availability compared to the earlier one. That makes sense as well as whether people are returning home, who don't want to hang around as long, or people going for business (or even connections) so an earlier arrival is better, the earlier evening flight is more convenient. Thus, if wanting to try an upgrade I'd only book on the later one.

You can't book with the Saver fare as that is not upgrade eligible.

The QF site tells you what the point upgrade cost will be from different fares. There are no guarantees, but I think if you booked 118 from a higher fare you'd have a fair chance of getting the upgrade. On 128... probably not.

I agree that QF118 is the better option based on loadings.

It's not correct that you can't upgrade from an Economy Saver fare. You can - just not from an Economy Sale fare.
