I have booked and paid for Japan Airlines (JAL flights) (SYD/MOSCOW return). I am not currently a JAL FF member. Should I become one to capture the points for this trip booked? If yes, can I transfer these to my Qantas FF membership? If not, I just see these FF points as isolated as I would not know how or when I could redeem them. I would appreciate thoughts from the more experienced FF's. Cheers
(Note I have since discovered I could have redeemed QFF points for the JAL flights under One World - trouble was Qantas systems did not let me book on-line and error messaging was useless as it did not say you must call the contact centre for JAL ticketing.)

You will not be able to transfer points from JL to QF. However depending on your fare class you may earn points with your QFF account

Probably not worthwhile.

Assuming the flights are eligible for crediting to QFF (they most likely are) this is the better option. Can you share what fare basis/bucket the flights were booked using? I can help exactly how many QFF points and SC you would be entitled to.

Feel free to PM me your booking PNR and surname if you're unsure how to determine the bucket.

Yep, this is a common issue for a few oneworld partner airlines including JAL. For future reference, you can usually get QF to waive the call centre fee if you argue their online booking engine isn't capable of booking the award you want.

I too, was wondering about this - we are going PE to London via Japan this year. Thanks for starting this thread, I wasn't sure what the upshot was.

For anyone wondering, our PE flights earned us approx. 28K QF points and 150SC when credited to QF.

Also the flights were a joy, service exceptional and planes spotless.
