No you can't use FF points for upgrades on Jetstar. Apparently you can often upgrade at the airport for a nominal fee ($300ish).

The upgrade is to their Jetstar premium class or whatever its called on those flights, think would be a lot more than $300 each per sector?.

The upgrade to starclass on JQ is indeed reported at around $300 if done at the airport. You run the risk of there being no availability.

In terms of SYD-HNL-SYD on QF you can use points but it will be through the normal lottery process whereby the upgrades are provided by status and time of request - the higher status and early you requst the better chance you have.

Yes you can apply for an upgrade, although you go on waitlist and upgrade is not guaranteed, but only if the airfare is upgradeable. Avoid N, O and Q classes.
