There is much discussion on where you would like to go, but what about where you don't want to go?

With so many places on the planet to visit, I have no intention on going to Bali.

I’m with you, never been to Bali, not interested in going.

I never say never, but at the moment I can’t see it changing

We spent part of a day in Bali a couple of years ago so I can say been there done that. We loved it so much  last time that when we call in there next month on a ship, and we are going to treat it as a sea day.

Vietnam. Didn’t feel safe and was eventually robbed. Java in Indonesia. Pakistan. Most of the countries in Africa. Bahrain.
(Just like cruising, touching somewhere in a cruise ship does not explore the country. ;).

- Bali (although I'm curious so may pay a visit some day)
- Most of Africa (I'd love to visit South Africa)
- Most of the Middle East
- Central and South America

May end up transiting the airport of some of these places but generally try to avoid any areas with conflicts and high crime rates.

Bali was fairly low on my bucket list. However with QF scheduling SIN-PER at "unsocial" hours (and pulling the the JQ direct SIN-PER flights), a flight into DPS and a night's sleep in a bed connecting to the morning flight into PER is a far better alternative. That is, assuming you have some time flexibility.

Where not to visit (well = except to connect or as a mileage run stopover)?
NYC. Los Angeles San Francisco (but I've been there before)
Kuwait &country
Karachi &country
Tehran &country
Baghdad &country
Damascus &country
Tripoli &country
Mogadishu &country
Caracas &country
Port-au-Prince &country

Just (not) wandering
Fred

Fiji. Had a bad experience there and too many other places to choose before I do that again.

Central African Republic, Chad, Niger, Nigeria, South Sudan, Somalia
Yemen
Pakistan, Bangladesh
North Korea

The others I am up for, subject to they stop shooting in some.

There probably isn’t too many places that I wouldn’t go to but of places I’ve been I couldn’t get out of Seoul fast enough. Probably one of the few places I’ve been that I have no desire to return to

India. No desire to go there at all. I hate Indian food and smell, hate crowds, hate mayhem. I would not survive it without a meltdown unless I had my own driver and guide and VIP access to avoid the crowds/queues.

I watch the Amazing Race and India is always when I would say, Im done.

There was something similar a while back, while there are few places I will say I will never go to, there are quite a few that I will never go back to.

No interest in visiting Mexico and I've never had much of a desire to go to South America.

Always said I wouldn't go back to Indonesia, I haven't been to Bali, but some of those resorts look good!

Things change, a lot of places I've been to, I wouldn't/couldn't go to now. The opposite is true as well, a lot of places I couldn't go to when I was young and traveling a lot, you can now, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia for example.

So my duck-it list includes places I don't want to go to nor to go back to, Israel, Mexico, a lot of South America, Zimbabwe, Belarus, Turkey, current war zones , Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, a lot of the PRC and some of India and others. Also a lot of the USA, I felt more unsafe in some parts there than I did in Lagos or Nairobi.

Always wanted to go to Bhutan, but after what drron wrote a while ago I'll have to give it more thought. Myanmar was high on my list to visit, but now I'm not so sure.

I havent been to Bali, because aussies, but Lembeh in Nth Sulawesi/Indo is one of my fav places in the world. If you like muck scuba diving, its amazing. But we stay at a the resort, stay away from Manado (airport).

Not seeing much love for Pakistan! Is that a current climate thing?

I travelled extensively there in 2001 - just before 9/11 - and can say without hyperbole that it's an incredible destination.

The only places I have no desire to revisit is Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, unless the Australian cricket team is touring.

Always wanted to drive the Karakorum highway and visit some the valleys up in the north of Pakistan, Gilgit, Skardu, etc, I'm sad that I've probably missed my chance.

This wasn't an option when I was in Pakistan many years ago.

I keep an eye on traveller forums like Thorn Tree just in case....

Pakistan is one of my regrets. My BIL was DA there many years ago and I didn’t take up my sister’s and his invite to visit them.

Some years later, after 911, they went back again and visits were not available. They did however send me details of their bullet proof, bomb proof, gas proof car that the Australian Government provided to them for their safety.

Places I wont go back to - Turkey and Bali.

Turkey because of all the sleazy men trying to touch you, and Bali because of the bombing - our son lost two friends in that.

Anywhere that smarttraveller.gov.au says don't go to, or that it's risky to go to.
