Losing QFF points and calling in the media

Personally I think that having the challenge is quite fair and not too onerous and certainly not going to cost 'thousands' as she claims. Wonder what other AFFers think?

Hmm.

You see, here in AFF land, we all know that the quickest way to get some points is to go buy some wine, and we also know that 2500 points is absolutely nothing when you know how to play the game.

Outside of AFF land, I can totally understand how someone sees 2500 points and thinks they have to load up their Qantas Cash card with $5000 or spend $6000 at Woolies.

It's plausible that one can get to 150k points and not understand the points game if you're just earning a bit from actual flying over an extended period.
 
No expiry of points and if they do expire make sure the person knows they are about to expire.

Burying the expiry of points into an email that most people don't read is not adequate.

I have stolen this off Facebook (I believe that he is a member on here), but this is the email you refer to. Whilst I believe it is new, it is hardly inadequate.

Regardless of its adequacy, its likely that someone battling cancer isnt prioritising their emails. I dont think it would hurt QF to have a little compassion in this case, or at the very least give the person some advice on how to earn the points easily (ie point them at Epiqure).

Going by the attitude of the couple in the article, I believe that unless QF returned the points, they would have told QF to shove it if they were provided any advice as to where they could find easy solutions for points such as epicure.

Apologies missed the new email. Follow up email or even phone call could be handy.

You'd be surprised how many people have no idea. Wife has over 100,000 QFF points and she wouldn't/couldn't know where to begin.
 
Maybe there's another business opportunity here for QF loyalty? Pay $50/year subscription or $1000 up front :eek::p to ensure your points never expire, and you "never have to worry about it". Opt in of course, if you don't pay subscription, just have the usual need for activity every 18 months .....

I had a look at the Facebook news on this and I'm surprised how many people expect a corporation to just give away something. Invoking the spirit of Australia, which shows how good QF advertising has been.

Well I would agree but once they allowed pauses in membership for pregnancy (a normal life event for most) then they opened themselves to be likewise well meaning to people who suffer actual crises.

This is similar to gift cards such as Wish cards expiring. Very poor business practice that I'd hope would be stamped out at some point.
 
See, my issue is that they have rushed to the media to paint QFF as heartless. The comments made by the partner as being 'neglected and insulted' are itching for a media frenzy. Yes, the wife was undergoing chemo, but other people have had equally bad times including some on here (and before any one leaps in, I have been through both chemo and radiotherapy, whilst keeping up most of my work and with young children at home so I do know how hard it can be). They have still managed. I just get a bit tired of people who want to be treated differently to others.
Should I duck and run now?
 
A single PER-East Coast return flight would earn 2900 QFF points for under $500 when on sale.

Points can be earned by actually flying somewhere...
 
The article states her husband travels overseas regularly (not sure of their interpretation of regularly means) but you'd think he'd be onto this and if he does fly Qantas he should have got them transferred to his name. 151k points is a fair bit of flying if all earnt that way.

Not at all. However Qantas don’t treat people with health issues very well I’ve found. But they do jump on the populist stuff with relish.

Clearly they aren’t members of AFF.
 
Given the expiry is abitrary I think Qantas should offer an exception.
However, I think they have already done that.
No extra outlay is necessary - everyone has $5k of bills in 6 months, just use the Qantas Cash card as Qantas told them.
 
Why should points that you've earned in good faith expire in the first place? The whole point of QFF is to inspire and promote loyalty...

They are know it all, smarty pants academics from, where else, Canberra. Of course they expect to be treated differently.

I never really understood QF's behaviour until I listened more closely to what AJ actually said, viz. "My responsibility is to the shareholders".

Let's face it, as pax we're all just SLC ... self-loading cargo.

Although going on some of the comments here, there are obviously some shareholders amongst us. ;)
