Hi all,

Just paid 70K in points for two in economy Hk-Bris.....more than double required for a Qantas flight with promo.
It was an earlier flight, so how bad is the conversion\poor use of points.

Anyways I looked at oneway paid fare on same fligtht for 2018 and they are asking $3KAU????????????

Why so high for a June flight?

From memory Cathay one-way prices have always been high.

Trying to book some one-way flights out of Australia in February and March and the airfares are on the high side.

Most legacy carriers one-way flights are insane.

If doing points one way look at coming back on via one of the LCCs who price all flights via one-ways

I also looked at LCCs for end of March to travel from SYD-CNX with golf clubs and still stumped how LCCs get away with the perception they are cheap outside of gimmicky sales.

JQ to BKK only including the Starter Plus and golf clubs is ~AUD650 travelling SYD-MEL-SIN-BKK. Then I have to find my own way to CNX.

Air Asia with a decent lead in price increases to ~AUD550 with golf clubs.

SQ is ~AUD715 with long overnight connection in SIN but earns 90 SCs and Velocity points.

Now here is the killer. QF is ~AUD650 SYD-BKK-CNX earning 40 SCs and 3,400 QFF points and includes First lounge access in SYD and probably has the best connections. If I wait a few days I am assuming Qantas will have the gift voucher special and could possibly earn another 3250 QFF points.

Qatar one way prices are excellent. One thing you could do is book a return ticket if you are planning to return but about a year out and nest other flights within it.

From my reading the OP already has their flights arranged... they made a reward booking but were simply comparing prices for a paid ticket.
