Couch to 10K. Thats steps - I aint running!

I've lost 1kg during that month which for me is a good sign. During the rare times I'm able to lose weight I usually only lose 1kg per month. I think if I lost weight quicker than that, I'd put it back on quicker when I stopped watching what I was doing
I think weight loss of 1kg/month is quite good.

It took me 2 months to lose 1kg recently and put back 3kgs on 9 day trip to Thailand.

Back to counting calories.
 
I have been stacking on too many kgs of late... Several months back i woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep (not a morning person usually) and so hopped up, got dressed and went to the gym and hopped on the tread mill for 20 minutes and did a few weights before work to add to the usual gym classes i do in the evening... Doing the walking (increasing the gradient and the time) and then starting to do intermittent fasting (so cutting back on carbs and then trying to eat only between lunchtime to about 8-9pm) i managed to lose about 8kgs or so in 8 or less weeks...

Work then got coughpy so i went back to comfort eating and put it all back on again, back up to 100kgs, but am about to start it again and be more disciplined (with IF your meant to be able to have a few more cheat meals but i go packs of chips, biscuits, chocolate etc :) ) so back to early starts and tread milling... I have the Qantas Assure app as well

I want to do a hike to Everest Base Camp in the next year or so so i guess i will have to try and do a bit more training for that as well at some point....

But i think its a mix of eating a bit more properly, cardio training and resistance training with some weights... Once you have these sorted to do a bit most days i think the kgs come off much more easily than flagellating yourself too hard using one method... And as always start slow and build up, most people have made the mistake of getting fired up and trying to hard at the start and suffering a setback....
 
Ive been having hip and leg calf issues this week so a new chair and a chiropractor visit and Ive been breaking 5K but the mystical 7K is still not happening.

I live on a very big hill and my morning walks have been about half way up and down x 3 times, today I ventured a bit farther to about 3/4 up the hill and down to put a few more steps on the pedometer.

I think you're better off visiting a physio not a chiro.
 
Yes, got one of those as well, hes been giving me stretching exercises and really helped me a couple of years ago when I badly tore my calf and my husband sees him every 2 weeks also (hubby working on his flexibility and other issues). Thanks.

I will also add that having to walk away from my desk every hour (Garmin Red Line of Laziness) is very annoying and a reminder how some of us sit at our desks for far too long.

I'll say it again, being reminded to get up every hour and walk is a PITA but a reminder of how long we sit at our desks! The Red Line of Laziness works in guilting you to go for a small walk.

Probably also a good thing for productivity and relieving stress getting up every hour which should improve the quality of your work.
 
My garmin sent me a message that its starting to notice a pattern, that I either stop wearing the tracker or have died on weekends :)

This morning I walked up and down the small hill 4 times, one more than usual.
 
Bit off topic but I did three 20km bike rides on Fri, Sat and Sun. First time I have done that for a while.

Did a small morning walk again but nothing to get excited about other than I notice my ankles dont seem to ache anymore, which they use to before I started my morning walks.

Holidays are ended and reality is trumps as the scales tell me what I expected..
5 weeks of gross over indulgence = 5kg fat ring around my waist.
I normally clock up 10000 + steps a day pottering around the farm , but thats just enough to maintain my normal weight target.
The overindulgence requires some suffering.. serves me right….

One thing that interests me is the level of stress that can be safely applied to the ageing structure.
In the past I have been very hard on my body seeking fitness and weight management .
I now fear a breakdown as there must be a point where declining capacity fails to manage exercise demands .

Having said that , my marathon running son, cheerfully opined that he knows a lady in her 80's who is still running marathons.
Maybe I can walk a half .. just for fun….

Hell no. I wear regular clothing. I ride a mountain bike and go off trail. I have actually seen Mamils on gravel tracks and totally destroy their bikes (Punctures and cracked frames). A bit mean, but I had a chuckle.

I must congratulate you Denali.Have been doing a lot more walking.Even felt fit enough to jog 4 flights of stairs on Friday.Yesterday was going to attempt a 445m hill but someone had obviously switched signs around and I couldn't find my way to the uphill track.So just a 100m one as consolation.

Just finished a 30 minute walk for the day and I have my walks planned for the next 2 days.

It's a difficult time for self control at the moment with all the half price chocolate in the shops.
