I booked flights to KUL last week on the Jetstar sale $420 return. The plan is to fly onto Langkawi from KUL. Scheduled to land at KUL at 18:00 on JQ65.
MH have a flight onto Langkawi 20:00. The flights would be seperately booked. Am I cutting this a bit fine? Are JQ often late into KUL? Expertflyer says 64% reliability with average 40 minute delay.

Does anyone have any experience with this flight? All advice much appreciated.

Hi there

I have taken JQ65 a couple of times in the last 6 months. Both times I have arrived on schedule +/- 20 odd mins. One was Tues flight while the other was on a Sunday.

Coming back on JQ66, I have had delays in one of the two flights...but it was around a 40 min wait as they had some sick passenger on board and that delayed the disembarkation of JQ65.

Cheers

I suspect you will be fine but Travel insurance would be a no brainer, enjoy Langkawi, its one of my favorite places, no need to buy duty free on the way either!

If it makes you feel better, KUL airport is world class. Given you have a 2 hour gap I'd say you'll be fine, even if you are 30 mins late.

Thanks harpoon, have been there a few times, definitely a great airport. Great trains to the CBD as well.

Always be careful about travel insurance for missed connections. I had an experience where travel insurance refused compensation for a missed (train) connection at FRA where I had to fork out $300 for new fares, because my flight was delayed due to mechanical problems, which they don't cover, that I should get compensation from the airline.

Qantas refused to compensate me basically said bad luck you should have travel insurance and seek compensation through them. [In the end though QF came through in the end making in it quite clear that they were not obligated to compensate me but were doing because I was a WP]. I am sure JQ would not be so lenient.

I flew AirAsia in Oct last year KL to Langkawi and found them to be very good (at least for a LCC) and cheap. They do leave from the LCCT though, so you would need to allow a little bit more time.

Just looking on their website, they have some very cheap flights - including some "free" flights where you only pay the taxes.

For example:

That puts return flights at around AUS$28! Might be worth checking out.

I booked return with MH from the main terminal for $86AUD each for 4 people so very happy with that. They had flights for $0.00 with taxes only so I got a good deal.
