Qantas Delays/Cancellations

1520 is delayed. Autopilot broken.
They haven't said anything about a new time, but the gate staff said they were thinking 2 hours.
They are looking at connections (I'm connecting to 25).

They are now saying 610 (1 hour late). Not confirmed.

They've moved me to the next SYD flight, on a silly Dash 8. (lose my J seat)

QF777 on Tuesday 10 October (1535 hours MEL - PER, A332 VH-EBN) took off at 1648. Arrival is predicted at 1738 hours, 53 minutes tardy.
 
Made it to the SYD F lounge after QF1484.

Looks like QF1520 made it out of CBR after a 2 hour delay. Not many people left on it I expect, it sounded like they were moving as many people off it as they could.
 
Also on Tuesday 10 October, QF29 departed MEL 101 minutes late at 1301 this afternoon for HKG, where arrival should be at 1920, 80 late.
 
Wednesday 11 October sees B744 VH-OEB on QF128, the first overnight from HKG down to SYD estimated to arrive at 0844 hours, 34 minutes late.

The scheduled 2355 hours MEL to DXB and LHR QF9 on Tuesday 10 did not depart until 0103 and then take off until 0145 hours on Wednesday 11. This is an unusually long taxiing. VH-OQA, class leader, is the A388. DXB arrival is suggested as 0735, only half an hour late, so there is again every chance of an early or punctual arrival in 'The City.'

QF24 from BKK arrived in SYD on Wednesday 11 at about 0809 hours, 39 minutes late. This flight a few months ago was routinely on time, or less than 15 minutes late: often it is now more than half an hour behind schedule due to continual delays to QF23, in contrast to competitor Thai (TG) whose flights are mostly on time.

The HKG - BNE overnight, QF98 is estimated to arrive at 0800 hours, 75 minutes late as last night it was airborne at 2047 against its scheduled departure of 2000 hours.

In further on 11 October, QF61 (1055 hours BNE - NRT, A333 VH-QPI) departed 61 minutes late. Arrival is estimated at 2000 hours, 50 minutes late. There was no obvious reason for the delay as the aircraft came in on QF98 ex HKG about an hour late, but this (in theory) allowed plenty of time for the plane to turn around.

As a result, QF80 from NRT overnight to MEL will be somewhat delayed in its departure as the latter is timetabled for 2030 hours.

Later on Wednesday 11 October, QF28 from SCL to SYD (B744 VH-OJU) should arrive at 1818 hours, 38 minutes tardy.

QF1505 (B717 VH-YQT, the 1400 hours from MEL down to HBA) departed at 1546, arriving at 1704, 109 minutes behind schedule. It then took off from HBA at 1804 hours on QF1584 hours, the 1550 hours to SYD where arrival is predicted at around 1949 tonight, 129 minutes past the allotted.

QF1506, the 1535 hours from HBA back up to MEL was cancelled.

This aircraft has had an interesting day, departing CBR a little more than two hours late on the 0630 hours to SYD (QF1510.) It was then about 45 minutes late on return working QF1513 and after a break of around 90 minutes operated QF1535 (1315 hours CBR down to MEL), arriving about 10 minutes early at 1415.

QF462 (1900 hours MEL - SYD) has been cancelled. Wind was gusting to 56kmh (30 knots) at MEL at 1920 hours.

The 1745 hours MEL - CBR (QF1536, B717 VH-YQV) was in the sky at 1911, so arrival is estimated as 2002 hours, 67 minutes late.

On Thursday 12 October, QF420 (0930 hours MEL - SYD) is also cancelled.

Friday 13 October sees QF1502, the 1010 hours HBA - MEL (B717 VH-YQV) having taken off at 1049. Arrival is expected at around 1203, 33 minutes late.

These HBA - MEL flights tend to have tight turnarounds: once one is late by half an hour or more, past observations suggest it is difficult to catch up time. Sometimes these aircraft have a HBA - SYD flight formed by a MEL arrival so the tardiness affects Sydney passengers as well.

QF1583 (colleague B717 VH-YQW, the 1040 hours morning SYD - HBA that was in the sky at 1152) should pull in to the island capital at about 1323, 43 minutes tardy.

The 1120 hours from MEL up to HKG, QF29 has been delayed by an expected three hours in its departure.

The SYD - JNB QF63 commenced pushing back 57 minutes tardy. It should pick up some time with arrival estimated at 1734, 34 minutes behind schedule. This will slightly delay QF64's departure tonight South African time.

Although QF129 from SYD to PVG only departed 17 late at 1052 this morning, arrival at 1913 is predicted, which will be 43 minutes behind the timetable.

Also on Friday 13 October, QF73, the longhaul from SYD to SFO that should push back at 1400 hours took off at a much delayed 1631. Arrival should be (same day) at 1034 hours, 64 minutes behind for B744 VH-OEH. QF has had quite a few of these two hour departure delays in the past week for its B744s but they are almost certainly for differing reasons in each case. VH-OEH had come in to SYD almost three hours late on 12 October (QF12 ex LAX, the usual Tuesday operation ex SYD and LAX of a B744 not an A388) but that gave it about 27 hours in Sydney before this QF73 was due to depart, so it wasn't a case today of a tight turnaround or waiting for a late aircraft inbound to form the SFO-bound service.

QF443 (1500 hours SYD down to MEL, A332 VH-EBM) did not become airborne until 1608 this afternoon, so it is set to arrive at 1724, 49 minutes late.

B717 VH-YQW has not managed to gain much on the timetable since its mention in the previous post. It is presently on the 1520 hours MEL - HBA (QF1507) that was in the sky at 1607. Arrival looks to be 1739 hours, 64 minutes tardy. These HBA B717 rosters had been improving in punctuality after being a major concern to QF about 12 to 18 months ago, but in the last few days unpunctuality has returned. If I recall on a previous occasion our erudite staff contributor milehighclub commented that 'QF was aware of the problems' so doubtless management may again look at this quite tightly timed, subcontracted operation. There will be many variables including available slots, staff hours of duty and factoring in connections to and from ADL, PER and DRW to name a few but it might be wise, if possible, to lengthen the turnarounds by five or 10 minutes to try to ensure better timekeeping.

QF623, the 1355 hours BNE - MEL with as usual a B738, in this case VH-VZV, took off at 1446; arrival is predicted as 1750, half an hour behind.

QF29 was noted above as an estimated three hours late in its MEL pushback today but A333 VH-QPG did not become airborne until 1518. Arrival in HKG should be at about 2107, 187 minutes late. QF98 from HKG down to BNE is as a result expected to depart HKG 135 minutes behind schedule at 2215, but this may be a slight underestimate of the delay as usually turnarounds of these aircraft take at least 70 to 75 minutes.

VH-QPG may have had to replace a failed colleague as it earlier operated QF82 from SIN to SYD, arriving at about 0700 hours, five minutes early before running QF427, the 1100 hours from SYD down to MEL where it was about five minutes late in arriving at 1240 hours. It would then have had to be placed at the international terminal which may account for some of the additional delay.

QF3 is delayed overnight due to the earlier swap due to the failure of QF29.

QF51 was also cancelled today.

Looks like 2 technical issues with 333 aircraft.

Colleague VH-QPI is in BNE tonight so that may account for the QF51 cancellation.

QF130 on Friday 13 is predicted to depart PVG 55 minutes late at 2250 hours meaning SYD Saturday 14 arrival at 0955 hours, 25 late and at the same gate that the delayed QF3 is to depart from.

Fairly unusually, A333 VH-QPB operated QF107 on Friday 13 October from SYD to PEK and will return as QF108. Usually this is one of the two unrefurbished A332s due to suitable galleys and crew rest facilities.

The 0630 hours from ARM down to SYD on Saturday 14, QF2050 is cancelled.

Saturday 14 October has QF98 (2215 hours Friday 13 HKG - BNE that took off at 2322, A333 VH-QPG) suggested as arriving half an hour late at 0930 hours.

Class leader VH-QPA on the overnight PVG down to SYD QF130 should arrive at 1015 hours, 45 minutes tardy.

The 1015 hours MEL - LAX long flight is predicted to depart an hour behind schedule at 1115 as QF94 arrived at about 0911 hours, 76 minutes late.

QPE was scheduled to operate yesterday’s QF29. Due to a technical issue they swapped to QPG which was operating some SYD-MEL-SYD sectors before operating the QF3 late last night.
QF did attempt to get QPE up to SYD on the QF460 MEL-SYD service but it was later cancelled resulting in QF3 also being cancelled.

QPI appears to be operating today after QF51/52 were cancelled yesterday indicating a technical issue.

QF107/108 is generally always a 333 on Fridays, Melburnian1 and usually goes on to form QF3 on Saturday night, which cannot be formed by QF4 due to a different timetable on Friday/ Saturday.
 
Also on Saturday 14 October, QF93 (predicted above to depart an hour late) did not do so until 1156, 101 minutes behind schedule; same day LAX arrival has become 0738 hours, 63 minutes late.

Also LAX-bound but ex BNE not MEL, the B744 on QF15 departed 35 late at 1055 meaning predicted arrival at 0632 hours, 32 late.

After being cancelled yesterday as Flyerqf informed us above, QF51 from BNE to SIN is again in the ways on 14 October with departure delayed by an expected two hours to 1400, and arrival estimated 110 minutes late during the Singapore early evening at 1805 hours.

The overnight delayed QF3 with A333 VH-QPE left this morning nine minutes earlier than was expected (at 0921 hours) and took off at 0946 meaning likely HNL arrival (ex SYD) at 2225 hours on Friday 13.

During the evening of Saturday 14 October, the rain has already started at BNE for what the Bureau says will be a very wet couple of days.

QF1749 (1850 hours BNE down to MEL that was in the sky at 1952, B717 VH-NXR) should arrive in the southern capital at 2257 hours, 42 minutes late.

On Sunday 15 October, QF20 from MNL down to SYD should arrive at 0805, 45 minutes late as it took off from MNL last night at 2029, 29 minutes after scheduled departure from the gate.

Saturday 14's QF11 departed LAX 75 late at 0935 with estimated JFK arrival at 1722, 42 late.
 
QF415 (0800 hours early morning Sunday 15 October SYD down to MEL that was in the sky at 1040, A332 VH-EBD) is likely to arrive in the southern capital at 1149, 134 minutes behind schedule. This aircraft then took off on QF430 from MEL to SYD at 1252 with arrival predicted for 1404 hours this afternoon, 39 minutes late.

QF434, the 1300 hours MEL - SYD has been cancelled.

In further on Sunday 15 October, A333 VH-QPC on QF129 (scheduled 1035 hours SYD - PVG) had not begun to push back by 1305. It is delayed to an expected 1400 hours with suggested arrival at 2125 instead of 1830 in PVG, so QF130 back from PVG tonight will be at least three hours late in pushing back.

QF23 (1050 hours SYD - BKK) departed 47 late; arrival should be 42 minutes behind time at 1722 this afternoon (local time.)

A332 VH-EBC on QF581 (1050 hours SYD - PER) was in the sky at 1303; arrival should be at 1429, 99 minutes past the allotted.

Stablemate VH-EBR on the northbound QF426, the 1100, did not take off until 1219 so a 65 minute tardy SYD arrival at 1330 is expected. The 1230 hours MEL - SYD, QF432 was in the sky at 1338 with A332 VH-EBO so its arrival has been delayed until a predicted 1438 hours, 43 minutes late.

The B744 on QF27 (1230 hours SYD long flight across to SCL) is predicted to depart 85 minutes late. Arrival should be 65 late, same day, at 1215 hours. This will delay the returning QF28.

UPDATE: The delayed QF129 departed at 1420 hours, 225 minutes behind time.

QF1549 (1410 hours BNE - CBR, B717 VH-YQV) took off at 1505; national capital arrival should be at 1733 hours late this afternoon, 33 minutes behind schedule.

The second SYD - HKG flight (QF117, A333 VH-QPD) was scheduled to depart at 1300 hours but was in teh sky at 1430. Arrival should occur at 2016 tonight, 36 minutes late.

In further on Sunday 15 October, QF4 ex HNL arrived in SYD at about 1913 hours early this evening, 103 minutes late. QF3 back to HNL is accordingly delayed with departure predicted 80 minutes late at 2050 but HNL arrival 85 minutes late at 0945 (same day.) This will again delay QF4.

QF37, second stinger from MEL to SIN should depart at 1640 mid afternoon but on 15 October it has been put back to 1925 hours for Lion City arrival at approximately 0020 on Monday 16, 150 minutes behind schedule.

The 1545 hours EMD - BNE (QF2407, VH-QOV, a Q400) took off at 1712. Arrival in what has been a rainy capital city today rather removed from its 'Sunshine State' image should be at 1837 hours, 87 minutes tardy.

UPDATE: QF3 on Sunday 15 was further put back to a suggested 2110 hours departure from SYD, but it commenced pushback at 2101 and should arrive HNL 61 late at 0921 same day.

A388 VH-OQL looks to be on its way from SYD to MNL (Lufthansa Technik maintenance), having taken off at 1953 on Sunday 15 October 2017. There does not seem to be another A388 to come down from MNL which probably reflects how Australia has just had a busy school holiday period. In contrast, November is one of the three lower demand months for travel so it is a suitable time for maintenance that as one of our aviator contributors has previously reminded us is normally scheduled months in advance, and very carefully to try to do it during a demand trough not a peak period.

B738 VH-XZI (QF481, 1735 hours MEL across to PER that took off at 1846) should arrive at approximately 1927, 42 late.
