A few quickies for the Drrons..

A leisurely morning but of course no status and checkout at 1100.Our flight is at 1355.Not a long trip to ADL from the Hilton.Fortunately Rex have a person doing early checkins so get rid of our bags.Looking forward to 2.5 hours without a lounge.
Have a coffee and then share a wrap for lunch.Knowing the dilemma we have both bought our kindles along.really didn't think $33 each for the rex lounge was worth it.Naturally then the plane is delayed by 30 minutes.

Finally in our seats-11B,C.well there was a row 12 but it was empty.Only 13 pax on this flight.
ZL 4767. ADL-KGC. ETD-1355 Push forward-1413. Take off-1416.
ETA-1430. Land-1442. at terminal-1444.

Good views after takeoff but then cloud all the way to Kangaroo Island-

As this was a lunch time flight we were served 110mls of H2O and a Mentos!

It didn't take long to get our first sight of Kangaroo Island-

It took about an hour from the airport to the Southern Ocean Lodge so arrived at ~ 1600.
Great view as we checked in-

The minibar was complimentary and quite a few other items.but then you could go up to the great room and select from a vast array of complimentary wines,ales,spirits and liqueurs.But they did not have amarula using a rather lame excuse that there were no elephants on KI.
So we sat back and enjoyed the champagne-

So to dinner.I didn't take a pic of the first night dinner menu.There is always a little teaser,an appetiser,main course and dessert.There is also a very generous cheese plate if you are up to it.The food is excellent,small serves but you don't go away hungry.Staff excellent.
The first night the teaser was apple I think 3 ways.American River oysters followed by locally caught flathead.The dessert featured kaffir lime leaf icecream.It was delicious.

So to brekkie the next morning.This is the regular menu and there were usually 1 or 2 special items.

Mrsdrron had the pancakes with Muntrie berries-they are local and absolutely delicious too.

I went for my old favourite-eggs benedict.Though they are not called that here-

The eggs were cooked to perfection each day.Runny yolk and a stronger taste than usual.I stuck to poached eggs every day.Dont think I will be able to look fondly at Neil perry's version again.

After breakfast we have nothing else on so go for a walk down to the beach.All along a boardwalk until you get to the beach.The wildflowers are just beginning their spring show/

A teaser for geologists-

Mrsdrron has a rest whilst I head off for Penguin Cove.Though their are no penguins there.Most on the island have been wiped out by feral cats.They are conducting a program to eradicate them.The council has also become very strict on cat owners.All cats must be microchipped and desexed.Any cat caught that doesn't have a microchip is put down.There is also a 24 hour curfew on owned cats.Guides told us there is a move to make it stricter.

The track to Hanson's bay.The end room is very large at the lodge but a long uphill walk to meals.

Then it was time for lunch-

The slow cooked lamb wrapped in kohl rabi was great.And there are those muntrie berries again in the dessert.
After lunch it seemed that our friend had moved to the opposite side of the lodge-

After lunch it was time to walk along the clifftops with a guide.

The water was just a wonderful colour-

Unfortunately only rocks.Southern right whales are seen until September but the last seen near the lodge was 2 weeks previously.

Returned to the lodge at our own place and had a closer look at the vegetation and birdlife-unfortunately the birds there haven't learnt to pose.So to the pictures-
