You should have various travel options while travelling as solo traveller I am giving some places here you may like to visit them.

1.Ireland
]2.Paris
3.Hawaii
4.Japan
5.Madrid
6.Los Angeles
One might know these places can share their experience all these place are on my list of future travel destinations.

I travel alone 95% of the time and the only places I probably wouldn't go alone would be South America and parts of Africa

Paris sucks when you're solo.

Rubbish (if you'll pardon the expression). At least no more than most other places. In fact I can't think of any place I've been to as a solo traveller that I couldn't enjoy. Sure there are those times when a partner would have been nice, but that doesn't mean that they "suck" to a solo traveller.

Whoa! Re-calibrate re Sth America. Not sure why your reticence but I've been there several times travelling by myself and I think JohnM has been there many times similarly. Very enjoyable and no safety concerns, if that's the issue. (Exceptions of course; Rio problematical (although I did survive :) ))

How about a 60+ year old woman travelling alone? And I know South America is a big place and not sure why I have this reticence but seeing as I want to go to Antarctic at same stage I may have to change my mind

Totally agree!!

Sure, everyone has their comfort level, but I would say places like Santiago and Buenos Aires are not much different from many European cities in regards to figuring out what the heck is going on and communicating with the locals. And go on a local tour (a day one or a fully organised multi-day one .. probably the latter) and you will be good for many more places.

Is that the State Natural History Museum in Moscow as your profile pic? if you've been to Moscow, most of Sth America is a doddle! :)

Yes it is Moscow but I did go on a small organised tour (and the travel company went bankrupt the day before I arrived in Moscow) so consequently made the trip even more interesting (and I had the most amazing tour guide who was supposed to leave me at the hotel until the paperwork had been sorted but he just told me to get on the bus and not tell anyone and I had to pay my own entrance to places that should have been included and go in by myself. There were about 12 people on the tour - 6 of them Irish - they didn't take long to work out what was going on and just laughed and said cough it - we'll look after you!!

No not rubbish. There, more than any place I can think of, it sucks to be solo. Of course, it is possible to enjoy all that food, culture, history, etc in a one-ball. You'd just have to keep telling yourself that you're having a great time.

I love travelling Solo. Regardless if it is mix work or purely for leisure.

A little explanation of your list would be nice. I have only ever travelled to LAX solo as it is always for work and I spend the weekend + 1 day there. LAX solo can be lonely, everything is so spread out (unless you are in the major tourist areas) I end up driving around so much on my own. It is enjoyable as I get some quiet time but I don't think many would find it fun.

Reading the other responses, I am guessing age has to do with it too.

For myself (late 20s Male), SE Asia is the best for Solo trips. (I don't do contiki/tours/beach party/boat trips).

Most SE Asian cities always seem to have other solo travellers my age and 8/10 times, I would bump into someone that I can spend the rest of the day exploring with. SE Asia always has street food stores/restaurants that many people (inc locals) eat alone in so it never feel awkward. Whereas in LA for example, you are limited to fast food or bars/pubs but even then I seem to be the only one eating alone.

Of those the only place i haven't done solo is Hawaii and that's next Feb.. Ireland i just did Dublin and Japan i did Osaka on my own and Tokyo on my own for a few days then met up with friends...

Paris have done several times on my own and a couple of time with others, enjoy both experiences...

Travelling on your own can be great, you can go where you want, when you want, at the pace you want, doing what you want there, no arguments, no disagreements etc... The last 10 years or so of 70+ countries has mostly been on my own... Yes travelling with others can be fun, but travelling on your own can be great as well.... And if you have to wait for others before you will go places you will end up only travelling as much as anyone else wants to or can get time off etc...

I think most places in the world you are ok as long as you know what you look like you are doing... Crims, like most predators, go for the easy target that allows them to get in and out with the least risk... So know what you are doing, be aware of who is around you, go places like you have a purpose and i think you cut down on the risk markedly everywhere... The only real place I have been on a tour of sorts rather than doing my own thing was a safari through middle Africa (Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania) as I hadn't been there before, didn't know the whole situation with bribes and safety and transport...

Be interested to know the age group of people that travel alone and what sort of trips they do

SWF 45... i prefer to travel alone, and I always choose to travel on tours when in non-English speaking countries (except Europe). Most people on small tours are solo travellers and I find spending time with like-minded people from all over the world is really rewarding

I'm off to Egypt tomorrow morning!
