About to use points for first time, quick questions

Evening all.

This is quite exciting as my girlfriend and I are finally booking a holiday to Europe after speaking about it for years. Neither of us have done long haul travel, neither of us have even been overseas (apart from across the ditch).

So, bought tickets tonight on QF1 next April, and looking at Classic Reward seats in Business for the way back. Done my searching on Awards Nexus and narrowed it down to a few options, few quick questions:





1) When ready, do I just ring Qantas, provide all the details and they book over the phone for me? If the flights are with QR the whole way, will it be a QR or QF flight number?




2) If coming back via FRA it looks like you get access to the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge, is this correct? Or are there any other options? Other option is via CDG and the QR lounge there looks much better. I am QC Bronze and my partner is Bronze.





No award availability via HKG around dates of travel from what I can see.

May have more questions which creep up!

Where are you finishing your European vacation ? I take it you wish to return to Sydney ? Maybe you can return ex LHR via Japan. Were you intending to have a stopover on the way home?

Try and find the flights you want on line first, even using the multi city tool to break the itinerary via the hub of the operating airline (in this case QR). If you cannot book it on line, call QF and ask them to book it, hopefully waiving the call centre assistance fee.

Award tickets are almost always issued with a flight number of the operating carrier (in this case QR). Award flights are almost never issued as a code share (i can't think of an example except perhaps the QF/OZ flights to ICN)
