Hi all,

I was recently provided with status challenge by qantas for gold. 200sc in 90 days, have managed to get those in around 30 days... VA WP retained as well so will fly around with qf for some time now..
question - how long should I wait for status to update. have upcoming flight tomorrow and monday and wednesday and friday. will be good to have lounge access again after long...

What did the T&Cs say? If they said to say wait for 6 weeks afterwards you may need to wait for those to be up before you can ring if it doesn't happen automatically.

none really. it just said earn 200sc on qf or jq flight between now and 13 Sep and we will upgrade you to gold. spoke with the team who had called for offer they said u shud be gold when u hit 200sc.. curious.. not end of the world as all flights are day trips hand luggage only so can survive the mayhem however seat selection would be good i end up getting stuck on a middle seat towards back of the plane..

When I switched from VA a few years back I was offered the the same challenge, from memory I had to ring the call center and they had to manually apply the status and it took effect immediately.

I did this last year, and also reached 200 SCs long before the 90 days were up. My status updated to Gold very quickly - 36 hours after the flight that got me over the line. I didn't have to take any action - just happened automatically. When did you get over the 200SC mark?

Thank you. To be fair it only completed the 200 SC last night. VA (when it posts the SC on time) does make the changes immediately / overnight so was curious to see how is it with Qantas..

If you have a flight tomorrow I would give them a buzz to see if they can push it through manually.

Thanks, I did manage to speak with the team at QFF after a hour long wait...
lady was nice, she said I can see you have fast track gold applied on your account so the status should upgrade automatically but there is some problem and she has referred the case to the product specialist ( I have no idea what that means) but it seems to me that tomorrow will again be a travel as NB...

thankfully the status will update before travel next week...I do look forward to trying QC though, will be a change from VA lounges...

That's unfortunate. I wonder if they'd be able to attach a QC guest pass to your PNR or even a note for the lounge angels.. did you mention the travel tomorrow?

Unfortunately, I doubt it. To be fair, this is going back quite a bit, but the first time I ever made Gold with QF, I was in a situation where I was still Bronze, even though I had more than 700 SCs, as I had only completed 3 eligible sectors. I then flew MEL-BNE return. The outward leg got me my last eligible sector, but by the time I was flying back, I was still Bronze in the system.

I thought if I go to the QC they will surely understand the situation and let me in, as it was blatantly obvious that I had now met the requirements for Gold - but they didn't. They put me on the phone to the QFF call centre, who basically said tough luck. I thought that was an extremely inflexible approach to take, but I gather that's their policy - if the system hasn't updated yet, you don't get the benefits.

I think I will be OK in the morning, need to be on a 6:30 AM flight (instead of 7:30 AM flight because of a meeting that has sneaked up) I doubt if I would have even made it to the QC in time.. coming back is a different story though :D

and it gets messier.. spoke with the ff team, response wait for two weeks while we deal with it. the request is in progress but will take two weeks to be processed in the meantime you can call us and we can see if we can do anything to get you lounge access, when are you travelling.. this evening, ah well you see we need atleast few days peior to travel to see if we can help...
I wish I was a shareholder. would have loved to ask in agm what are u doing to fixing the customer experience, given flyers dont get much success..

maybe it is coming back being to NB at QF from being WP the experience sucks...

We can understand that with flights coming you would like Qantas Club access. However Qantas gave you a reasonably easy challenge to achieve Gold. And you have achieved that.
Normally the upgrade comes through fairly quickly as some posters have attested. We presume the upgrade will be system generated, and maybe batch processed. Therefore I doubt anyone can actually give you an accurate date. I trust it will be soon. As a shareholder I would suggest that Qantas have been trying to give you a satisfactory customer experience.
It is your planning that is contributing to dissatisfaction.

Don't mess with the pooch.

The pooch's contributions add an entirely different and unique colour to this site - and I for one relish it.

Pooch, don't change!!

hi ric_melb dont get me wrong. I completely agree it is a easy challenge. What I am cribbing about is the way the expectations are managed and set.
example -
1. If QF was to tell me that they will take 14 days after the 200 SC are reached to update status I am fine, I can plan accordingly.
2. Do not ask me when am I travelling next to say we can offer you something, just say you will need to wait. I will wait. Like I mentioned, I am a hand luggage only traveler and reach airport only 45 minutes before the take off, lounge access wont be a big issue.

Also, why I would like to ask as a shareholder is to see what is being done to improve the customer experience. 1 hr wait time to have people speak with the someone human is not good, especially if the message is "your flight for tomorrow has been cancelled, please call us to discuss" and then I wait for an hour to get an update...

Hi Ap-spd.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my comments.
Looks like I may have been a bit hasty to judge. Now seems we maybe in "furious" agreement.

1. Take your point. If you were told 14 days you could plan accordingly. With that point in mind it seems QF operators are not briefed well with answers to your query, and most probably haven't a clue to the timing. So this is something Qantas should know about, and do something about. (But maybe don't hold our breaths!)

2. Offer of some temporary fix only on demand and inconveniently is flaky. Again telling you to wait the 14 days would be preferable.

3. To take your point on customer experience, this may not be so much referring to the time taken for your status to update, but more to conflicting information, and more particularly the point of phone contact with Qantas being so difficult, with such lengthy waiting times. As a shareholder, I have read many comments here about passengers waiting inordinate times to talk to someone at Qantas. And as a shareholder I find it ridiculous that people should have to wait more than say 10/15 minutes to speak to someone. Your comments back this up now with a current example. If I attend an AGM in future I may well ask such a question. Or I may just write Qantas a shareholder's letter in this respect. :)

thanks ric.. you know we affer's have nothing but agreements...
flight at 5:30, reached airport at 4:45, just in time to head to food court for a quick donut and then on the flight...

dont worry I get judged often by the mrs ;) and cant do much then either
