Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Also on Monday 3 July, QF146 (1605 hours AKL - SYD that was in the sky at 1645, B738 ZK-ZQC) should arrive at 1815 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

Earlier, A388 VH-OQJ on flagship QF1, the 1550 hours SYD - DXB - LHR departed at 1644. Takeoff was quite prompt at 1706 with arrival suggested in the Middle East major airport at about 0105 hours on Tuesday 4 July, 40 minutes late.

The 1550 hours HBA up to SYD QF1584 (B717 VH-NXR) took off at 1647 should pull in at 1826 hours, 46 minutes past what the timetable states.

B744 VH-OEB on QF28 from SCL to SYD is arriving at approximately 1834, 54 minutes late.

A388 VH-OQI on QF128 (the first of the overnights from HKG down to SYD) is arriving on Monday 3 July at 0754 hours, 44 minutes tardy.

The NRT - SYD QF26 (B744 VH-OJU) is predicted to arrive at 0926 hours, 61 minutes late. Competitor JL771 was most unusually 119 minutes late so perhaps there was a major problem at NRT during the evening of Sunday 2 July. Whether JL or QF, it is very out of course for these NRT flights to run late: the route must surely have the best punctuality of any operated to and from Australia, in part because of the reputation of Japan for efficiency.
QF26 operates from HND, not NRT, whereas JL does operate from NRT.

QF26 operates from HND, not NRT, whereas JL does operate from NRT.

Apologies Flyerqf: that mistake has been corrected.

Sunday 2 July's QF12 departed JFK at 1940 hours, 90 minutes tardy, arriving LAX 57 minutes behind schedule at 2157.

The differently configured and operated QF12 second sector then left LAX at 2345 hours, 75 minutes late with Tuesday 4 July arrival estimated as 0715 hours, 55 minutes later than the timetable says.

QF16 commenced pushback in LAX 91 minutes late at 0051 hours today (Monday 3) with July BNE arrival likely to be an hour late at 0710 hours.

Neither of these delays should affect Australian east coast TransPacific departures on Tuesday morning. That's the theory, anyway.

Tuesday 4 July sees QF80, the overnight from NRT down to MEL (A333 VH-QPB) likely to arrive at 0837, 42 minutes late after taking off last night 62 minutes after its normal departure time.

The HKG - MEL QF30 (VH-QPC) should be in at 0822, also 42 minutes tardy. QF98 from HKG to BNE has a much greater delay, with the normal 0645 hours arrival on Tuesday 4 becoming a predicted 0829, 104 minutes late. To make a threesome, QF118 (A333 VH-QPF, the Monday 3 July 2125 hours HKG - SYD that did not become airborne until 2316) should arrive at 0956 hours, 56 minutes late.

QF128 from HKG to SYD is also delayed with A380 VH-OQI likely to arrive at about 0824, 74 minutes behind schedule.

QF408 (0700 hours MEL - SYD) was cancelled.

QF79, using the aircraft that had come in from HKG as above on QF30, took off from MEL at 1008 on Tuesday 4 July and is expected to arrive NRT 35 minutes late at 1935 this evening.

Continuing with Tuesday 4 July, QF7 (longhaul 1230 hours SYD - DFW that departed at 1523 hours, A388 VH-OQI) should arrive (same day) at about 1525 hours, 145 late.

As noted above, QF63 from SYD to JNB was late on Monday 3 so QF64, the 1910 hours did not get off its blocks in JNB until 2045; arrival in SYD on Tuesday 4 July was at 1642, 107 minutes tardy.

Giving passengers at MEL something to watch airside as they wait for the initial departure of the VA MEL - HKG flight at 0940 hours, QF93 from MEL to LAX is expected to depart 75 minutes late at 1030 on Wednesday 5 July 2017. The delay is because unusually, QF94 had departed LAX 98 minutes late at 2348 on Monday 3, arriving this morning in MEL at about 0833, also by coincidence 98 minutes tardy.

In something that seems rare reading this thread, it appears that all three QF flights ex-LAX might depart on time tonight. QF12 transcon is already in LAX having arrived early.

Himeno, if we call 'on time' 'within 15 minutes but lately it has indeed been pretty rare. The main problem appears to be the QF12 connection and the difficulty in departing JFK on time if QF11 is delayed: the layover at JFK appears oftern to increase in duration from the timetabled timespan.

On Wednesday 5 July, QF81 (1025 hours SYD - SIN) departed at 1059 with the 1725 hours predicted arrival to be 35 minutes tardy.

The ex MEL QF93 was further delayed than QF predicted with departure not until 1102, meaning same day estimated arrival in LAX at 0825, 110 minutes late. If the B744 on QF11 is held, it will be delayed from 0820 to at least 0930 in its departure for JFK.

QF129 (0935 hours SYD - PVG) departed at 1030 so it should be at its destination at 1940 this evening (70 late), delaying the overnight returning QF130.

The 1230 hours SYD - DFW A388 (QF7) is often a departure on the knocker but today it was delayed until 1313; arrival same day should be at 1330 hours, half an hour behind.

QF1 departed DXB at 0449 hours, 159 minutes late with LHR arrival suggested at 0920, 125 minutes behind schedule. However this in theory should be in way more than sufficient time to form QF10 to MEL, the 1330 hours that has as its first stop DXB.

QF10 into MEL tonight (ex DXB and earlier, LHR) is expected at 2125 hours, half an hour behind schedule, so tonight's QF9 will be at least slightly later than the timetabled expectation of a 2255 hours departure.

Also on 5 July, QF127 (A388 VH-OQA, 1000 SYD - HKG that was not in the sky until 1044, about 20 minutes late) has just emerged from a hold south of HKG and so should arrive at about 1802 hours, 42 minutes behind the schedule.

Himeno, we'll call you 'The Prophet' as QF12 arrived at LAX 43 minutes early at 2017 ex JFK on Tuesday 4 July.

QF12 (A388) departed 23 late but is due at SYD on time at 0620 hours on Thursday 6. QF94 should be 20 minutes early at 0635 into MEL while BNE-bound QF16 (B744) is predicted to arrive at about 0600, early by 10 minutes.

Celebrate it while you can. It hasn't been happening every day recently.

Thursday 6 July sees QF1386 (the super early morning miners' special from PER to KFE - Cloudbreak) not having taken off until 0645 hour. Arrival of B738 VH-VXQ should be at 0837, 62 minutes late. Many of these mining company flights for all airlines have a good punctuality record, perhaps partly explained 'because the companies and their workforces expect it.'

QF130 from PVG down to SYD is, like some other competitor Australia-bound flights ex Shanghai, late with arrival of A333 VH-QPF expected at 1007 hours, 52 minutes late.

The 1025 hours SYD - SIN (QF81) is expected to depart an hour late with arrival at 1735, 45 minutes behind schedule.

Longhaul QF7 (A388 operated) is also predicted to depart an hour late at 1330 with same day arrival forecast at 1335 hours, 35 late.

Later on Thursday 6 July, QF434 from MEL to SYD (A332 VH-EBP, the 1300 hours that was in the air at 1351) is predicted to be at its destination airport gate at 1455, half an hour behind the timetable.

QF81 is unfortunately later than predicted above, with A333 VH-QPD taking off at 1220 hours for a forecast Lion City arrival time of 1842, 112 minutes late.

LHR T3 had a fire alarm and evac on Tuesday around the time of QF10 departure/QF9 arrival.

Continuing with Thursday 6 July, QF7 from SYD to DFW, the 1230 hours did not depart until 1436, so same day arrival is suggested at 1445, 105 minutes tardy.

QF127 (1000 hours SYD up to HKG) left 26 minutes late. Arrival should be half an hour behind at 1750 hours.

QF10 departed DXB 85 minutes behind schedule at 0300. Tonight, it should arrive MEL at about 2155, an hour late, delaying QF9 from MEL by an hour or so, so a 2355 hours departure is a possibility.

The mid afternoon QF1781 from ISA to BNE (1420 hours) took off at 1508, so B717 VH-NXJ is arriving at a likely 1711, 41 late.

School holiday special QF96 (LAX - MEL, B744 VH-OEI) is arriving on Friday 7 July at 0803 hours, 33 minutes late.

A380 VH-OQB on the major overnight from HKG to SYD, QF128 is expected to be at its arrival gate at 0803 hours, 53 minutes tardy.

Later on Friday 7 July, QF703 (1315 hours CNS down to MEL that was in the sky at 1347, B738 VH-VYA) should arrive at approximately 1707, 32 minutes behind schedule.

This morning, QF23 departed SYD 84 late at 1114 for BKK where arrival is predicted at 1709, 34 late, which will at least slightly delay departure of QF24 back to SYD this evening.

At 1005 hours, QF93 left MEL 50 minutes tardy with LAX same day arrival forecast for 0717, 42 late. This may delay QF11, the scheduled 0820 hours LAX - JFK that is normally formed by the arrival B744 from QF15 ex BNE.

QF127 from SYD up to HKG departed 89 minutes past the allotted at 1129. meaning it should be at its destination airport gate at around 1835 hours, 75 late early this evening Hong Kong time.

QF63, the long flight from SYD to JNB has a good record of arriving at or close to time but on 7 July this 1050 hours departure did not come off blocks until 1236, so it will not be at its South African destination until 75 minutes behind the timetable, at 1815 hours. QF64 returning will not be able to punctually depart.

The 1205 hours SYD - MNL is continuing its recent form of mostly running late with departure at 1323 and consequent forecast arrival time of 1940 hours, 70 minutes late.

Longhaul QF7 commenced pushback exactly an hour late at 1330; arrival is likely at 1339 hours same day, 39 minutes late.

QF107 from SYD up to PEK was 54 minutes tardy away at 1319, so arrival should be at about 2308 hours tonight, 53 minutes past the scheduled time.

It looks like fog may be creating chaos at BNE during the mid evening of Friday 7 July.

While I will leave the expert commentary on fog to the meteorologists and our participating aviators, it looks like this fog may have swirled in very quickly and perhaps was unexpected in its severity as so many flights have been 'caught.' When heavy fog is forecast, it seems ATC does not give departure clearance until it has some confidence that flights may be able to get into an airport.

QF546 (1830 hours SYD to BNE that was in the sky at 1903 hours, B738 VH-VZW) undertook a few circuits - holding - south of OOL but as at 2100 hours appeared to be heading south, possibly to SYD to divert.

QF563 (1905 hours BNE down to SYD) managed to take off at 2011 hours with VH-VXG, its estimated SYD arrival being 2131, 51 minutes tardy.

B717 VH-YQW, the 1750 hours very late afternoon ISA down to BNE that took off at 1807 - more or less punctually - has diverted to MCY so at least passengers can transfer by road to BNE. Arrival at MCY was at about 2105 this evening.

QF711 (B738 VH-VZC, the 1750 hours CNS - BNE that was in the sky at a prompt 1805 hours) is diverting to SYD with likely arrival at about the 2205 mark, compared with its normal BNE arrival of 1955 hours.

QF553 (1935 hours BNE down to SYD, VH-XZA) was pointing skywards at a much delayed 2121 hours. It should arrive at 2244 hours, 94 minutes tardy.

The 1910 hours BNE down to CBR was in the sky at 2130 tonight with B717 VH-NXJ, resulting in a suggested national capital arrival of 2310, 130 minutes late.

B738 VH-VXB on QF639, 2000 hours BNE down to MEL managed to take off at 2150 hours so it should be in the southern capital at roughly 2359, 94 minutes late.

QF767 (2020 hours transcontinental from BNE across to PER, B738 VH-VZZ) took off at 2213 so it will be at least 90 minutes behind its scheduled 2355 hours arrival.

B738 VH-XZO on QF636 (2010 hours MEL - BNE) has diverted back to MEL.

QF6115 (VH-VZS) is ferrying down from OOL to SYD with arrival likely at 2305 hours or so.

There may be some aircraft out of position on Saturday morning 8 July meaning cancellations and late running.

Sat 8 July - QF931 CNS-SYD (0600 departure) delayed. ETD now 1300. Possibly related to last night's fog disruptions in BNE (?). Received SMS at 0400 to advise, so at least got to roll over and go back to sleep.

Also presumably related to the Friday 7 July mid evening BNE fog and consequent aircraft and staff being out of position, on Saturday 8 QF510 (0830 hours SYD - BNE) is delayed in its departure until a suggested 1055 hours.

Later in the day the 1600 hours SYD - BNE, QF536, is forecast to commence pushing back three hours late.

A333 VH-QPF on QF23, the 0950 hours SYD - BKK did not take off until 1032 so arrival is estimated as 1715, 35 minutes late. QF23 has been unpunctual on a few recent days.

B738 ZK-ZQB on QF161 (0935 hours SYD - WLG) was not in the sky until 1046. Arrival is estimated at 1551 this afternoon, 66 minutes tardy.

QF2021 (Q200 VH-TQG, the 1000 hours ARM down to SYD) took off at 1049; a 'high noon' 1200 hours arrival is predicted, 40 minutes late.

Friday 7 July's QF11 departed LAX 51 minutes behind schedule at 0911, arriving JFK at 1744 hours, 64 late. QF12 then departed JFK at 1934, 84 minutes late, reinforcing AFFer MEL_traveller's assertion that if 'the 11' arrives late at JFK, it loses further time on the ground, presumably due to missing its allocated departure time. LAX arrival is predicted to be even worse at 2325, 145 minutes late.
