Hi all just wondering as I am traveling to NYC from Melb in August with my family and being 6'5 and a firefighter I was wondering what the success rate is on getting specific seats upon check in for Qantas? In particular 71D,E,F &G. Last few time with Qantas I have t had the best luck in seat allocation and I still believe it's due tomorrow making a complaint on social media. My last flight LAX to MEL I was in 86 B and C which according to seat Guru and I can agree are the worst seats on any Qantas flight with the bathrooms directly behind you and lights changing from green to red every few minutes.

Not sure how it is relevant that you are a firefighter. Seats aren't allocated on the basis of a persons occupation.

Most of the 'good' seats are gone at check in time. If you need a specific seat I strongly recommend you book it immediately. You need to expect to pay for this opportunity.

I just had a look and that specific seat 71D is unavailable to select, but E,F,G are all available but I don't want to pay to select the, and have a stranger sit with my family. Guess I'll have to try being first in line.
thanks Ad

Do you have any status with QF?

I'd hardly think your poor seat selection is due to making a complaint on social media.

You have to remember that essentially waiting that long for seat selection you are at the back of the line. Seats can be selected in advance, and at OLCI, so you probably got the best of what was left.

Again, waiting for checkin leaves you a very small selection of seats to pick from. If you want an extra legroom seat you'll pretty much need to pay for it.

Sorry as for the firefighter thing it used to get me the exit row in case of an emergency to help out.

Pretty sure Mr Joyce sits in 1A lol

Actually I've seen him in economy and also taking the last J seat, but refusing food and beverages. (Admittedly short flights - all ex-CBR from memory).

Don't wait till check in, you'll get the worst seats for sure.

Yup, reality bites.

Row maybe avail, but Coveted 71D (if im right is the ex leg room over staff access floor panel)...
....then unless ur Platinum or some sort, then chances are slim.

And when I say Slim, I'm being generous.

The whole "exit row" senario works differenty to the Premium 71D spot option,....SAFETY vs Loyalty . Practicality vs MONEY

That would depend on load. Pre-allocate a seat now and try to improve the seat at check-in if flight not full.
