Re: The view from my "office"

......... well it actually is my office for next 3:53 - Seat 1A on G11 Beijing Sth to Nanjing Sth 08:00-11:53:

View attachment 94615

Absolutely beats me why anybody would want 1A in any prem cabin - plane or train - there are always far superior seats in every cabin IMHO - unless you are a recluse who loves staring at a wall for hours on end that is:

But even worserer than it being 1A is that I am sitting facing the cough end of the train with back to direction of travel - on a train with 1,056 seats there are only 4 seats that do not 'swivel' to face direction of travel - and I paid highest price tix on this train ¥1,043.5 - jeez I hate traveling backwards!

Travelling backwards on a train is quite different to a plane!
I have to admit though I prefer going city centre to centre on a train than a plane (generally peripheral and check-in waits etc).

I love travelling backwards (train, tram and plane!). BA's backward seat was a great experience for me.

Re: The view from my "office"

Plenty of those Chauffeured Vans have backward facing seats.

But if you travel Nanjing to Beijing Sth, there are only 4 seats that do not swivel to face backwards :D !

Glass half-full, glass half-empty.....

That would be an interesting question to pose to the masses. I was of the impression everyone hated travelling backward. I know I do.

On a train I find it easier to observe the scenery as it moves away than as you rush towards it. More than happy to sit facing back on the way to work on a suburban train. I have never sat backwards on a plane, but keep trying to hook a BA flight into my trips to Europe with AY to try it out. But generally the cheapest J options out of SYD have involved QF/CX. Maybe next year if I can work it in.

Re: The view from my "office"

I very much liked the BA J back facing seat. Trains don't bother me, so long as I have a seat I am a happy camper. So I guess put me in the "backwards" category.

Re: The view from my "office"

Travelling backwards is safer; a vehicle is more likely to stop suddenly than start suddenly and you have the seat to support you rather than falling forward on your face.

Re: The view from my "office"

I dislike travelling backwards, but the BA J rear facing seats didn't bother me at all.

Re: The view from my "office"

All those claiming like / love sitting backwards on a train? How many times have done that for ~4hrs travelling at 300kmh? That exp might just change the view of some - zero chance seeing any scenery as it is past you in a flash - sitting forward you can concentrate on a forward view and then watch it for couple of secs before it flashes past you.

I've done it on the Shinkansen and quite enjoyed it.

Re: The view from my "office"

sitting backwards on a train?

There was a lot of talk about seat direction after the JL123 crash, with some claiming that backward-facing seats would improve the likelihood of survival in the case of a train crash and make identification easier in the case of a plane crash.

Re: The view from my "office"

Perhaps the same principle as baby bassinets in cars backward. I can't even watch ice skaters going backwards, or Ginger Rogers, without worrying.
