Love the cruise control on our car. It is very exact in its settings, works well in 40 & 50kmhr zones & also downhill-in contrast our 2005 Ford cruise control lacks these refinements

I finds CC or at least speed limiter very useful around BNE. Too many 30/40/50 zones these days. Takes a lot of the enjoyment out of driving to have to continuously watch the speedometer.

I wish the speed limiter in my car can automatically link into GPS to automatically speed limit to 40 in school zone times

my kids are learning in an automatic. I dont see the point of learning in a manual especially when all our cars are autos.

I learned how to drive a manual ~35 years ago. Had a Datsun 200B for 4 years. Can still drive manual now but not that great especially hills.

Not sure about cruise control. It's a nice gimmick if driving long distances where speed is constant but I'd like to be in control.

I love having CC and utilising it.

I don't consider CC a gimmick, I don't loose control by engaging CC.

I find I can reverse park quicker than the park assist so have never used it.
when i went for my driving test years ago i was made to reverse park up a hill in a manual (in the day before hill assist or autohold or reverse camera or such devices)

Judicious use of cruise control will save a bit on petrol/fuel consumption and occasionally the avoidance of photos taken by radar cameras. :shock:

Since retirement, trips to Perth have confirmed that travel at 100 (compared to the limit of 110) will reduce the consumption by about a liter per 100 km. And add 15 or 20 minutes to the trip. When doing the trip 3 or 4 times a month, the time savings seemed more important.

Most rental cars in the UK and Europe are manual. And automatics are much more expensive to rent there. (and not just Europe. In Vanuatu, all I saw was manuals)

Driving in snow and ice is much more difficult without a manual gearbox.

In an emergency situation, they may need to drive someone else's manual car.

I'm not saying your kids need a manual license, but I think they do need to know how to drive a manual car.

In my situation I do 30000 km per year. 15000 km is freeway. I estimate 10000 to be on CC.
As I use diesel, the difference is very imperceptible with or without CC. I guess it depends on your driving style.
the diesel golf can do about 1000km on one 53 litre tank highway conditions

I can fill up tank after work in sydney, drive home from work, drive down to jindabyne on friday night, drive to/from Skitube on sat and sunday, drive home to sydney (NW), drive to work on Monday then fill up in afternoon after work. With or without CC it does not seem to matter.

On the highway I set the CC at 116km/hr in 110 km zone. i dont know what would happen consumption wise if I used 110 km CC setting.

Sounds about right. I have seen some statitistics that gives an average of about 9% fuel saving when driving at 100 versus driving at 110.

In Melbourne, I have had a lot of employees pinged for speeding fines for being only 4klms over the limit.

Melbourne is tough - very little margin for error.

I guess we are all different. When they will have cost effective driverless car in the near future I still want to drive my car. Not the other way around.

In VIC I seem to get away with 3km/h over setting on CC. I suspect the actual speed is at least 3km/h less than what the speedo says.
I should actually go and get a speedo test on my car

My husband was very excited to see a Tesla at Castle Towers shopping centre last weekend. It was charging up at the electric car section.

Theres a car reporter that lives in my local area, hes always got a new car and Ive seen a group of guys on more than one occassion checking out the car, asking him questions, at my local Coles.

one of our friends has a Tesla (and another on order). He took me for a drive last year when he got it - I couldn't say no as he was so excited about it, but I don't drive so it all means nothing. Its ability to self drive seemed quite impressive and it did have a huge screen for displaying maps and stuff. That was about as much as I noticed!

My personal vehicle reads under, so 93 is really 100
