QF Upgrade Success - discussion thread

Just got my laptop back.
Checked my QF663 flight, for 12Jun and under Classic Flight Reward, it says no seats.
Ah well, I will try my luck at the QP/J lounge desk and see what happens.
Learning more, and having to keep on the ball.
Thanks again Steady and 2tallforY.
O saw yours too, Lathiat. ((Paws crossed)).

AP, if you have not, you should apply for the upgrade anyway and your application will be waitlisted in their system giving you the highest chance of getting it at SG level. (you will be in front of other SG's applying after you and all NB and PS.)

As soon as I bpaid prior to the cut off at midnight last night, I had put in a request for an upgrade Steady.
But in the past 24 hours, I have learnt a lot, that its not J to look for, but U on EF, or if the QF website says, NO SEATS in Classic Upgrade Award, but QF is trying to sell rev J seats, in which case they might or might decide not to put any U subclasses on for the day I am travelling.
Ok, thats it for my mumble, have to wait and see now.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Ok, I paid Aud$470 as flexY but they gave me subclass M on QFd.
As mentioned on one of the threads on this website, if U is available, that the upgrade would be granted asap.
So, I changed my flight from one without U, to the one with U as mentioned on this website.
But, even though there is U, the upgrade is still on a waitlist.
I am QF SG, so those of you who have made it to subclass of J, from M or trueY, you were probably WP/P1.
Well, at least this time there is a better smidgen of "hope" of me getting a subclass of J on the 12 June.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Pooch, status has nothing to do with getting a domestic upgrade on a flight where there is classic award (U) availability.

Sometimes the upgrade can get waitlisted for whatever reason (it's happened to me - I suspect something to do with ticketing in the back end) and if that happens you just call up and they push the upgrade through.

I have also had to call a few times lately - fixed very quickly. Give them a call before someone else grabs it AP

Same here with recently having to call to get the upgrade processed manually. The last time the agent kindly blocked the two U class seats while there was a delay in the ticketing of the original booking.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Ok, rang up QFd on 131313.
If something goes wrong or not as expected, and gee, wait time of 5 mins as an SG, oh, happy days.
Right, so I made an upgrade request for a flight, BNE to ADL, with rev subclass of J, but no classic upgrade /rewards subclass of J.
Changed my flexY flight to one with a classic upgrade/reward seat.
I found out that my request was still linked to the earlier flight, and not the later flight with classic upgrade/reward seat.
So spoke to an Aust (by his accent) QFd CSO/CSA, and he did it all online, and explained to me what I had done and not done.
He did it, and I do now have a confirmed upgrade.
Pics of the newly updated BNE QFd will be put on here after. Might get to BNE airport at 16.00 and use the time to take many pics.
Thanks again everyone.
Oh, and its a real pity, when QF does outsource the QFF system to Manila. Not sure if 131313 is true reservations only, or if it handles upgrades by us pressing 1/2/3/etc.
Ok, so, back to normal ops on here.

Re: QF Upgrade Success Rate

Good to hear it has been sorted out AP

I just recently became SG (QFF GOLD) and need to book a flight from MEL - HKG - MEL, March 28 - April 2nd.
I'm wondering if anyone knows if it makes much difference in the probability of getting an upgrade to either Premium or Business, if I book a Saver or a Flex economy ticket? $300+ seems a little steep for only a chance to get an upgrade if the whole return ticket is only around $900.

Well the Flex does require less points to upgrade. QANTAS doesn't reveal the fine detail as to deciding who gets an upgrade, but if nothing much else separates two passengers one would think the one that's spending more would get the upgrade.

Premium Economy Sale fares for those dates are cheaper than Flex Economy Fares at the moment. Premium Economy Sale fares require the same number of points as Flexible Economy to upgrade to Business. You may wish to consider booking Premium Economy Sale. That way if your upgrade to J fails you still have a better seat than you'd get in Economy.

Flying SYD-LHR (then back again next week) in August in J and requested an upgrade for First. I know its a long way out, but what are the chances of an upgrade happening? As this flight will be the one to qualify me for Gold ill only be PS...

Difficult to say this far out. Flight loadings closer to the time would be required. Your request would be processed after P1, CL, WP and SG travellers and perhaps some other PS travellers too. I would think your chances would be low, but you keep your points if you're unsuccessful to try again another time.

Depends on load. I tend to agree with mviy chances are most likely low and I wouldn't hold my breath but stranger things have happened. QF international upgrades is a lottery.

Reporting successful upgrade request for QF11 SYD-LAX and QF12 LAX-SYD from J (actually I) to F.

We are both SG. The SYD-LAX sector was requested >1 month out and was successful about T-60. The LAX-SYD sector was requested 3 days out and was successful at T-24. Cabin was full on both sectors.

I am a skywards gold looking to book a SYD- Singapore flight - I can book a Qantas ticket or an Emirates ticket, but will be on Qantas metal. All other things equal, which one is more likely to give me an upgrade?

You need to use QANTAS Frequent Flyer membership with a QF marketed ticket (i.e. QF flight number) to upgrade on QANTAS operated flights.

Does
that apply for op-ups as well? or do they not consider emirates tickets for op-ups? Thanks.

Whilst op-ups may be common on Emirates on QANTAS they are rare. Even for top tier members the chance would be very low.

Points upgrades would be processed first. Op-ups will only be done if e.g. economy is oversold and not enough customers put in points upgrade requests to upgrade to premium cabin(s).
