Was just on the QF10 flight from DXB to MEL, but we've diverted to Singapore Airport due to a vibration issue in one of the engines on the left side.
Captain announced that we were flying on 3 engines but did not have enough fuel to make it to MEL, SYD. I believe the Captain said the runway in Perth was having some works done to it and was not an option.

Staff were great and by the time we landed in Singapore, we had been allocated next possible flights back to MEL. I'm on SQ237 flying in J class, however I've heard the seats are quite outdated on the 777's.

I wonder what this means for the QFF points I was going to earn from DXB to MEL, it was just enough to get me to Gold status. Can anyone shed any information?

Don't worry you will get 'original routing credit' just ring / email QF and they will manually post it for you if it doesn't happen automatically! Congrats on becoming Gold (shortly).

I'd suspect it will credit as DXB-MEL anyway, but if not claim the extra as Original Routing Credit.

You might also double dip with SQ/VA on the new leg.

Think it depends on the 777. Most of SQs seats are very nice

Sounds like trouble brewing though if you're on a QF A380 service the next couple of days though. Will be interesting to see if they fly OQB back to Sydney empty or if she's stuck in Singapore needing an engine change. Looks like QF9 tonight is delayed until midday tomorrow so maybe they think they can get OQB back by then or will shuffle things out of Sydney and disrupt the timetable up there.

I was on QF9 tonight with two colleagues. We got shifted to EK. I was told QF9 will terminate in DXB.

How great is it that we have AFFers giving a first hand account of the divert (we are everywhere), and expert comments from an A380 Capt.

Look how much quickly Qantas can get people on their way when the disruption is at SIN vs DXB.

Looks like they are taking the 380 from HKG tomorrow, or using the one from maintenance (as QF11 is 744 on tues), to ferry to MEL. All SYD outbound flights still on schedule

SQ237 is the non refurb 777-300ER but still a great J seat - same lie flat as their A380. Much better product than QF.

On SQ 237 you now get 777-300ER's which have the second newest long haul product, it is fine. Whilst the seat design is now 10 years old, you still get 1-2-1 flat bed seats (flipover) and all seats have aisle access. It is not the refitted 777-300's that used to operate the flight with 2-2-2 angled flat seats.

Or have enough staff able to properly deliver the Qantas service at DXB.

Seems like a pretty cheap shot given they have so little control over where something goes wrong. Go back to your dream world of SIN/BKK/HKG stops, and consider a flight that has to stop in DXB due to unanticipated difficulties.

More look what you can do when other airlines actually have seats available, or not over the peak Xmas travel period

The issues with staff at DXB were that Qantas staff were limited, communication poor and eyewitnesses reported empty seats on some services that staff didn't look to fill. If something goes wrong at a hub, the passengers expect the airline to be able to deal with it.

Happy to share my travel experiences to everyone in this community! Feels amazing to be able to get valuable responses from everyone including an A380 pilot!
I look to contribute more.

I'm looking it as a good opportunity to experience a J class product on another airline. Just need to make sure I get those QFF points, but looks like it's no issue!

I'm on QF127 today from Syd and still looks like an A380. Hope they don't swap it now. J looks pretty full and 1A on an A330 or 747 just isn't the same.

Points no big deal as you will get ORC... Singapore is a good stop and also many hotels if needed and flights by the dozen back to Australia
