MPC flyer on QF

Most of my travel is intra-Asia, but I've just booked my first QF economy flight (Q fare) as CX GO and noticed there's no Club Point earn on most discount fares. I don't think it would have changed my decision to use CX as my home airline, but still kind of disappointed to see that most Red e-Deals don't earn.

Just confirming that this is actually the case (and not a mistake). Although the earn rates are very low, it would have been a nice way to top up the CPs.

More broadly, does anyone have any tips or tales from the travels on QF domestically as a OWS/OWE? Do you feel like a second-class citizen compared to QF's SG/WP/P1? Or are the equivalent OW treatments similar?

you'll get all the usual refinements flying as a GO, seat selection gives same access as QF SG and priority boarding and lounge will be fine. Probably worth looking at flexi fares if possible for CP earn ( I always used to credit my QF PE sectors to MPC before MPC changed for some nice tier mile earn ).

Don't get me started on earn rates on the new MPC programme but anyway ... Flying CX DM on QF recently I haven't had much if any on board recognition -- eg no greeting by name as OWE or taking my dinner order early etc. But I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the QF service on flights over the past 6 months. Not so sure about economy, but I will say QF Premium Economy comfortably shades CX, especially in terms of food and wine; and business on a plane with the new QF business suites is also a great experience (again, food and wine better than CX, although I do prefer the CX seat)

I've found one Red e-Deal/Discount Economy fare class that earns on MPC: L.

I assume these are the most expensive Red e-Deal fares, but I just wish there was a way to filter all the others out.

And just further to this, I'm thinking if these flights won't credit anything to MPC/AM, I'll credit them to QFF. Will I have any issues showing my MPC GO (OWS) card to access lounge, priority check-in etc? Or does having it on the boarding pass make it significantly easier?

Well given the earning bands for MPC, domestic QF flights won't yield enough "club points" (even in the biz cabin) to "worry about" since > 2750 miles starts the better earning groups. OTOH flights from Australia to SE Asia (except PER-SIN/KUL) will be more interesting. Even PER-HKG fits the > 3700 mile band. With QF just make certain it is V class or higher. Consider the "poor AA" flying member who earns nothing from CX unless in H class (and that at 50%)

If you fly a reasonable amount of QF domestic, maintaining a QFF account might be worthwhile. As would an Asia Miles account for the AA flyer with regular visits to SE Asia.

Thanks Fred. I don't (and won't be) flying within Australia very much, so it's not a huge issue. I also tend to book J awards domestically where possible so earn isn't a big deal. Mostly intra-Asia and Europe/USA long-haul with CX/MH/QR, hence why I'm using MPC. But for the few times I do fly short hops with QF, I guess I just need to know whether it's worth having my OWS attached to the booking (and forfeiting the points, but making benefits easier) or crediting to QFF but relying on my MPC GO card to access benefits.

Though, in trying to read the rules it looks as though OWS gets lounge access and priority checkin but not priority boarding. I can't think of a reason why the card wouldn't suffice for any of these.

I need to contact QFF customer service as the last time I flew PER-SIN I credited to QFF and used my MPC Gold to enter the lounge. The lounge dragon almost did not let me in as she indicated I was supposed to use the account for entry on the flight....

This has come up before and since I will be doing the same in March it will need to be settled. My normal flying will/would no longer get me MPC Gold as I was a fan of PEY. I have a once off trip with a exCAI xONEx for my 50th reunion and hopefully QFF won't do away with soft landings in the next 2.5 years.

Other than that I agree with your comments, though I think I have yet to see priority boarding for international with QF (other than the J cabin and children)

That's good to know. I had honestly thought it would never be an issue, having done it with airlines in Europe (card for benefits, account on boarding pass for miles).

I suppose, worst case, the lounge staff can add the number to the boarding pass and I can remove it at the gate. Or I simply gain entry to the lounge, then ask that they swap the number to a QFF one on the way out.

Risk is they don't do it and I forfeit the (admittedly small number of) points. Not the end of the world, but every point counts!

Fred, do you think that was a rogue lounge dragon or is it an official policy? Like you, I'd love to know for sure because, even if it's not frequent, it won't be the last time I'm in this situation.

It's got to do with interchanging other airlines for lounge access and accountability. However, if you are on a flight# operated by the lounge owner it shouldn't matter much.

Lounge agents which have this crazy zest for power and obsessive FF# matching need to be shown the door. It's not the way to treat higher than average value customers. I mean - if you're holding status on dual airlines and qantas doesn't know it - 'tis their own fault for sitting on their hands and doing nothing about data intelligence.

I would say this is not the norm. Vast majority of lounge agents are very welcoming and understanding of dual FF memberships.
