Hi,we are flying J class in July and am looking at the seat map on EK website and window seats(A side) from 7 til 16 are unavailable/blocked and on windows seats(K side) are from 7 til 14 unavailable/blocked.
As my husband is SG,I rang Emirates and they told me these seats were blocked for unaccompanied minors. They told me to look closer to the departure gate or at the airport.
We booked this flight on the Qantas website and are going to Europe.
Is this correct?

Thanks in advance

There are SOOOO many J seats on EK that they're all basically the same. The best seats are in F :)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Depends a bit on whether you are flying solo or with a partner, in your case sounds like you are traveling together. As a solo, seats A or K are true window seats while B & J have a small side table between you and the window. As a couple who want to travel, talk and be together then E & F are the pick as you are sitting together but also have a divider between which you can operate. If you want to sit together but not be real close then D & G is the pick.

IMHO 9K is my favourite and my +1 takes 11K as we both like the windows, and after 35 years we can tolerate being apart for the trip. 6 D & G are the basinette seats so I don't take row 7 in case of noise. On EK food service starts at the front of the cabin so these seats are one of the first to be served and the galleys are at the very rear. The galley in front of you is for the F cabin and not much noise will reach you from there. Towards the rear you have all the J class toilets and the bars so there is a fair bit of foot traffic walking past which can be a little annoying.

I have taken 25A and 25K on the 380 and loved them.
Away from the wings, and close to the bar.
You don't say what plane you will be using.
Edit: ah, pair, 25 and 26A or K.
One behind the other, who ever likes the view can take 25, who ever does not mind take 26.
Also closer to the back loo.

We are travelling as a couple and we are travelling on the 3 class A380.

We were hoping to get seats towards the front and have booked 14/16k as we both want to get windows and extra leg room.

We were hoping to get 7/9a but these are blocked at this stage.

Just wondering whether their gold frequent flyers get access before QF gold.

I think that 14 and 16 are over the wing!
((Edit: 14 and 16 are just about a bit after where the wing ends, but the engine will block view.
Granted the onboard cameras are a treat worth it though.))
Take a look at Seatguru website.
Forget about front of plane.
Upper deck, the plane starts with F and then J.
Take it from a backseat/armchair (no quals pilot wannabee), if you love window views, 23/25 are best, away from wing noise too. 24/26 have the space from seat to window where the person behind has their leg stretcher.

Frankly I call BS on the excuse from EK. All those seats for UM's? unless they know they have some kind of group on board (in J?) that seems about as likely as me winning the lottery.

Have you (OP) noticed any difference when accessing the seat map on the QF website? (I think even if you booked as the EK flight # you could possibly access the PNR there, but don't quote me on that - one would hope you are booked on the QF codeshare-if one exists-of course :) ). Agree that closer in seats in the mini cabin may open up.

As for which are best? I guess it's so subjective as to what you're after from the flight. Views? sleep? sitting close together(middles may be better for this) etc? Only you can decide. check seatguru as suggested above and make a choice from what's available I guess. good luck!

We did J HKG to DUB spent so much time at the on board bar don't remember what seats we had :)

Until now,I have never heard of blocking so many seats for UM's,especially in business class.Whatever!!!
Yes,I tried to select seats on the QF site(we purchased thru Qantas and yes, they are QF codeshare flight no"s) and I cant as it comes back with a message that its not able too.
We have chosen seats 14/16k at this stage but I will keep my eye out for other seats further back to open up.
Thanks so much everyone for your feedback..........

It's normal. Flying QF on EK metal, you need to select seats on the EK web site. QF seats don't stick. It's beyond me why they don't get it right on QF.

Use the EK site as the selections if you get them to work on the QF site won't stick.

EK A380s have slightly different cabin configurations. Often fly CPH - DXB and they have the small upper deck economy that I prefer (quieter, less babies, smaller queues for toilets, can pretend to be flying business when boarding the upper deck ....) But never seen this on AUS flights with EK.

I always book EK tickets with a QF flight number now so I can earn points and SCs but I never see exit row seats released on EK flights with my QF flight # ticket which I find a little annoying I can't choose an exit row seat, even if I want to pay for it.

Try the prawn and mango smoothie if they have it on your flight.
Its usualky on the spot after the bar, facing the galley in front if the screen.
You can log into EK with your QFF PNR but the EK system will issue you an EK PNR.
Do do OLCI but also do approach counter. I confirmed EK still needs to swipe passports.

How is any of this relevant to the query?

As for the other comments about seat assignments made via the QF website don't stick.. I have to disagree in my own experience of J and F seats have *always* stuck. I'm not saying, of course, it doesn't happen to others, but to also suggest that seat requests/assignments made through the QF website don't stick is also, at least in one humble passenger's experience, incorrect.

Happy flying....
