For the 15K offer - the 2012 Howard Park got pretty good scores (JH96, CM97, JO96, JS96), however the rest aren't super and a couple (like the 2013 Bin 0) Epiqure have been trying to offload via other packs for a while. At $78/bot, I think it's overpriced.

On the other hand, the Tahbilk 1860 Vines 2010 Shiraz @ $249/bottle + 15K points is pretty cheap (for 1860 Vines) anyway.

I take the view that QFF points are worth about a cent each. The 10K points that come with the dozen break down to 833 points = $8.33 a bottle, taking the average price down to $18 a bottle, which looks to be entirely reasonable for wines with scores in the mid-90s.

I considered this dozen, but I've already got a lot of wine. I'm particularly flush with red at the moment. I've got a longish award flight (CBR-IKA in F/J) coming up and I don't need the points urgently. And I doubt the grog would hit me before Christmas. Not sure I want a dozen sitting on my porch for a week while I'm interstate with the rels.

With Epiqure, Qantas is aiming higher than (say) Cellarmasters. CM is where you'll find bargains, but you'll also find wines that are pretty bloody ordinary. Maybe I'm turning into a snob, but I've passed the stage where I drink wine for the alcohol alone. All that stuff that the pundits rave about: nose, mouth feel, colour and so on, it really does make the experience a delight.

If I want to get drunk on wine, I'll go down to the grog shop and buy a cask or two. If I want wine that I'll really enjoy and have confidence that my guests will do the same, I'll take note of what others say here and order from Epiqure.

On that note, the recent Holm Oak Pinot Gris is a very nice drop. Glad I got a second dozen!
 
I find myself nodding in agreement. However of late Mrs GPH has been ordering the wine. So a few Virgin cases have made their way into Chez GPH. The quality just isn't there.

I agree with all you say. I was attempting to be humorous and not too serious.

Epiqure has improved the way we drink and the sort of wines we buy. And yes, I agree with you on the Holm Oak Pinot Gris. I got two dozen, and 14,000 points too.

Point taken. I think that for more than twenty dollars a bottle, a wine has got to be more than just reasonable. Maybe not a life partner, but it has to offer a little more than something to slug down fast.

I like wines that I can sip and mull over to get the nuances. A wine that tells its whole story in a second is not something I want to spend much time with.
 
My 10K bonus point wine dozen was delivered today. I was at work, Shrek upstairs but undeterred the courier accepted the signature from 11 year old Felicia to make sure we had that wine for Xmas :D :p
 
Mine arrived at the PO box yesterday too, (8:45am) fastest delivery I have ever had from Epicure. Why can't they do that all the time???
