Currently you can get 10 PPD at David Jones via Qantas shopping mall, buy some clothes for $250 and either keep them or decide they don't suite you after the points drop ;)

Are you enrolled with Woolworths Rewards? If you get some offers then possible to earn $30 which converts to 2610 QFF points.

Not quite, don't forget that you don't get the points for the tax/delivery component of the spend so you'd have to spend a little more than the $250 to get the 2500 points

Well there's some good news. Qantas FF said [ verbally ] they will re instate the points, using a " re-instatement challenge" by earning 2,500 points within 6 months.

Apparently, the operator said, they only confirm verbally as it is outside the TOS [ sounds strange, but .... ]

I've gone back to them explaining that my capacity to earn income is currently very limited until I am recovered from the current dysfunctions of my ongoing illness, and able to earn income again [ I'm out of work, no savings and supported by family, and was hospitalized with it 3 weeks in mid year ]. I have asked that they consider waiving the "re-instatement challenge", whilst thanking them for the offer, and have been told that it will be sent to a supervisor to review. I may hear back mid next week.

There is a thread for someone that had this offer put to them for a bereavement: sorry i cannot post the link / not enough posts for permission.

If worst comes to worst, and i beg, borrow or steal, how much do you have to spend to earn 2,500 points - i guess if friends may help out. Where are the best deals. [ I do not have credit cards or ability to get any - due to a financial meltdown with this condition]. Any creative ideas while I try and improve the offer?

That's a step forward, at least, Snowman. Well done for persevering - and fingers crossed for a happy outcome of the review. Do let us know how that goes.

QF currently has a promo of 5 points per Gift Vouchers which would give you 2500 points for an outlay of $500. Given your description of your financial position, that is probably not something you could cover. It may be though that some of your family/friends may have flights in mind for the New Year and could finance the purchase for you? Just a thought. Ignore it, if it seems quite impractical. :)

By the way, I have never used the Gift Vouchers, so if there is a potential fly in the ointment here, other AFFers with relevant experience could comment?

I was interrupted when posting my message #25, so had not seen the suggestions made by others re wine purchases etc.
Some of them sound much better value, so - assuming that the points do not need to be earned by flying - focus on one of the recent suggestions, other than mine.

It would be good to confirm whether there are any conditions, though. Perhaps wait to do that until next week, when you are supposed to hear the outcome of the review.

Best of luck. :)

Sorry for being a Grinch, but I can't shake the feeling that the Ts & Cs are going to require that the points be earned by flying. It seems to me that the vast majority of QFF members that can accumulate >600k points would see the earning of 2,500 points in 6 months as a fairly trivial exercise (as evidenced by the many quick & low cost methods shared already, or just a modest monthly credit card spend spread out over 6 months...).
I understand that OP has specific circumstances that may make it more difficult, but I suspect that the 'Challenge' is set based on the overall membership rather than the individual (and their particular circumstances at a point in time).
I hope I'm incorrect, but that's how it looks to me.

I share your pessimism on this.
It's possible though that the Gift Vouchers may - just may - do the trick. A little more expensive than the alternative options.

But the sun may break through and the Supervisor's review may change the status to "Computer says Yes".
Stranger things have happened.
Somewhere.
Sometime. :)

Depends if QF keep the T&C's the same for each challenge, however from anecdotal evidence on here the general term was a minimum of 2.5k points from a minimum of 2 sources.

I would clarify in writing what is the exact expectation of QF. If you can possibly 'spend' the money on behalf of someone else by say booking a flight somehow for them; pay their bills and they give you cash; buy gift vouchers for them etc, that may work.

If you can convince QF you are willing, but under the circumstances of your health and ensuing financial position, you may need to be creative and ask QF's indulgence to suggest a way of achieving the 2500 points.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

OK - I got the points back in the membership panel. All of them.

I needed to get points from 2 sources.

So i switched my Amaysim monthly/no contract SIM card over to Vodaphone ( a Qantas/ Vodapahone deal until 03 Jan 2017 ) - that gave me 10,000 points and was in the membership panel inside 24 hrs

Then i bought a bottle of wine, $29 including delivery from Epicure.

To keep the membership ticking over for the future i have ordered a Woolies Rewards Card and a Qantas Cash Card.

At all times QF FF reiterated that they cannot confirm anything in writing, because it is outside their terms of service.

So I'm a relieved person, and wanted to pass on my thanks to those who participated in this thread. The least i can do is wish you a Happy New Year / 2017.

In order to not have this happen again and without much work, you could open a qudos Qantas points saver account
https://www.qudosbank.com.au/Products/SavingsAccounts/QantasPointsSaver
this will ensure you get a few points every month and your account will never close again, you shouldn't have to deposit too much and there are no ongoing fees to worry about, it's a set and forget solution.

This is the reason I love this forum, just gained new knowledge, while I want need a monthly points earn I can think of a few friends who could use this method, friends who used to use the old Everyday Rewards WW scheme to ensure activity.
