I have a flight coming up on a LAN/LATAM 787-9 aircraft. I can select row 12 (which seems to be the front row of Y) or an exit row in row 30 (and most other seats).

I can't seem to find a seat map for this aircraft on Seat Guru or anywhere else! Does anyone have any experience with what the best seat to choose would be?

Well, I wasn't flooded with responses. But now that I've taken a couple of flights on this aircraft I thought I would answer my own question in case somebody comes across this thread in future looking for the same information...

...Row 12 (the front row) was very good. All seats are at a bulkhead with reasonable leg room. There was also extra legroom (quite an impressive amount, too) in rows 13-16 or so. The exit rows in the middle of the economy cabin are also recommendable.

I recently flew RJ in their 787 from HKG-BKK. Only a short flight and not too sure what to expect after reading various reports.

Row 5 is the first row of economy and I could only preallocate from row 6 back so pre-allocated 6D. On boarding found the first 10 rows pretty much empty so sat in 5D bulkhead. The seat was OK. The legroom was ok. Not sure how it would be in a non bulkhead seat. IFE was awful. From memory only 1 English speaking and limited games. Service in economy is awful. Sandwich and a very small water. Need to pay for alcohol. The airfare is not cheap on that route.

Will be interesting to try some more 787's in economy. Can we assume economy will be roughly the same across all the airlines? TG would be the next logical choice for me to try if QF don't get their 787's quickly enough.

Thanks for reporting back. Went searching for this very answer and your response very helpful. Am probably going to be flying this next month. Will add my thoughts as well.

Generalising but I think the nickname squeeze liner for the 787s is somewhat deserved. I had this thing where I wanted to try out Y on EY and QR etc and am on the 789 EY next month and now realising that is a bit of a mistake. Might try the bid to upgrade on a leg. Happy to try Y on the A380s though as I think EKs Y is very good.

Anyway....EY squish here I come....:-|

Picks would be great, especially J as you walk through the cabin as thats what Ive got booked in March.

Thanks! Not a lot of legroom in the bulkhead but at least you dont have someone reclining into you.

cheers,

I would probably choose row 13 if doing it again. Very decent legroom in that row.
