I seem to see lots of questions on whether you can upgrade on QF ticket on EK metal. Resounding no.

My question is the other way round. If you book and EK ticket on Qantas metal can you upgrade using your QFF points?

I tell you why. A multicity trip SYD-LHR, LHR-CMB, CMB-SYD on qantas webiste is $13,700 whilst the same trip on Emirates is $6,900.

Now i like trying to ramp up my credits however that is just a ridiculours price difference.

As far as I know you can't. However Sri Lankan and Qatar often have very good J fares between CMB and Europe and you will get more SCs than travelling EK

Thanks - Yes have looked at J fares for Qatar and only marginally more expensive. Have tried the QR product but looks good from the reviews.

On the way back from CMB, CMB goes to DOH then SYD however, it would give me 7 hours to experience the lounge in Doha.

Well family just flew Emirates J on full QFF points one way flight and said best they have been on compared to Ethiad J and Virgin J.

J on QR v EK: no comparison (unless you like bling and average service)
