ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I only got started this Easter :(

Sad but better late than never

Makes one sound like an old timer.... 'I remember back in the good ole days etc "

Wonder what the drop off in credit card turnover will be when there are no point earning opportunities available. The C/C Companies might regret the changes, pity they did not just increase the cost and let people chose to pay to earn the points rather than simply give them the flick.

Redeemed a first class return tonight because it was there. 288,000 QF points and some redemption charges seemed a pretty good use of points earned.

Just to add a bit of a sombre tone. I also heard from a reliable source that the Visa from the ex CU now bank Q will cease paying points on Govt Revenue collection payments in the next month or so. Making a quantity of hay whilst the sun is still shining "springs" to mind.

Amex Velocity still paying 0.5 point per dollar which is the only card of mine still giving any points for ATO payments. How long will that last? By next year maybe no one will give points?

At a school reunion I ran into a business couple who didn't know they could get Frequent Flyer points by paying the ATO.

I only realised this 18 months ago (joined here 24 months ago). At least I got some benefit. With two family members having their JQ MC (as well as me) and being a small fish in the taxation pond of life, three capped cards will keep me earning points until that door is slammed shut.

Thanks to everyone in this thread who have shared their knowledge and advice.

I have been on this party train for 5.5 years...it will be hard to accept when it does finally stop:evil:

Ten green ATO cards sitting in the wallet,
Ten green ATO cards sitting in the wallet,
And if one ATO card should be axed and fail,
There'll be nine ATO cards sitting in the wallet.

If you are referring to 0.5 pts per $ Amex cards, that's not worth it for me...I also know some have gone down the GC route but that won't continue in the long tetm and is a pain in the a$$ for large amounts. Amex Krisflyer will stop one day too
..some are going with US cards but difficult if you don't have US credit hx and SSN....of course if I missed something, you are welcome to elaborate more ;)

I was just referring (Using Ten Green Bottles Song) to when it stops in terms of being worth using a CC as the cards are one at a time losing their ATO value.....(ignoring the US cards)

Got a letter from coles mastercard informing no more flybuy points on Bpay transactions and that Bpay is only for personal use.

I don't think I could have paid today's ATO with gift cards so I used a US card and a Worldly one so it was all done in a few minutes with 3 payments all using 0.42% fee cards. The US card exchange rate was sub 75 cents so I should be able to beat that with a bit of watching.

$100 Coles Mastercard -> Amex Plat Edge = 315 points for $5 card fee + 60 secs data entry on ATO = 1.58c ea. (*) (**) (***) (****) (*****)

* Less company tax deduction if applicable
** Flybuys received = ATO 0.45% card fee
*** Singapore Suites SYD LHR for $1800 + tax.
**** 1.18c ea (for first 40,000) if you are local champion.
***** You know you have a FF problem when you spend 30 minutes inputing and cutting up 70 cards at a time :)

You’re welcome.

Well done, mirrors my experience too. Took me more than 60 seconds though as I had a few to input. But, why do you need to cut up used gift cards?

I have a mental image of cove up to his neck in cards and blunted titanium scissors using this method

Just waiting to be arrested. The phone call said two hours time because we hadn't paid the ATO. Four calls in one day.......

I gave Westpac Kris Flyer Amex a break as we each are loaded with Kris Miles following the transfer of the warehoused points from Westpac Black Amex (points devaluation in September). So I went for AA miles and Qantas points this month.
