Gold thank you certificates

I just recently reached Gold status with SPG and I received an email with a link to download 4 "Thank you certificates" to give to SPG staff providing great service. I think it's a very good idea and I'm sure staff in the USA are well aware of that program, but what about more exotic places (e.g Tahiti or New Caledonia)? I just don't want to create awkward situation in which I have to explain to the staff member what the certificate is and how they can log into a website to enter the code...

What are people experience when giving these certificates to staff? I like the FAQ section of the website mentioning that the certificates can't be used to bribe staff :shock:

Sorry for the delay; i give these out all the time in Australia and Japan.

What I do is - because mine are now digital i wish i had the nice paper ones like you as it is easier to explain - thank them for their service and tell them that Starwood (once they access their company site) will give them points to redeem for gifts or their own hotel bookings. Then I tell them to show it to their manager as it is a gesture that I am saying 'you really helped me today' and i joke sometimes and tell them to ask for a pay raise!
