I am hoping the assembled knowledge here will be able to help untangle this one...

Trying to book a mixed class CBR-SIN return fare as follows: CBR-MEL (Y) stop for >24 hours then MEL-SIN (J) stop for 3 days then SIN-MEL-CBR (Y). No joy online using the multi city tool, the popup says to contact the call centre (too complex I guess).

The multi-city tool allows a Y booking end to end, with these stops, but is not able to include the J seat MEL-SIN.

CSR tried to book it but failed, twice, even with a supervisor helping. In the end, they simply refused to help saying it was not possible. The availability is there, I can see that on individual sectors or partial bookings. They were able to get a Y booking on the dates required (but I could do THAT online myself) but that is not what I wanted.

Why? Why won't Qantas take my money?

Best option given by the CSR was to try a travel agent ?!? because "they have other fares available that we don't have access to". Is this true ?

I had a very similar issue today wanted to book MEL-SYD(Y) SYD-HKG(PE) HKG-MEL(PE), it priced online and allowed me to enter my details clicked proceed to payment and got an error. Called QF and they couldn't get it to work, saying it was a 'married segment' issue with the MEL-SYD flight.
In the end and after a lot of waiting they somehow 'forced' the MEL-SYD leg into the booking and were able to book it... agent said 'married segments' were meant to make it simpler for the customer but in reality cause lots of issues including preventing me from booking a rather simple all QF ticket, seems they get lots of calls where people can't book online due to married segments..

I had an issue trying to do a multi-city for a mixed class classic/partner award BNE/HKG on QF in Y then HKG/YVR on CX in J.

When I first called up they said it was phantom availability on CX so wasn't available.

I tried one more time to book it myself using IE instead instead of Chrome in case it was a browser issue but got same response.

In the meantime I signed up with JAL mileage bank as apparently their award seat search availability is very accurate for CX flights and the flight we wanted was showing 3 x J (U) award seats.

Whilst pottering around on the website the online pop-up appeared asking if I needed help. After initially beong told it was phantom availability again I told them that JAL could see 3 award seats so it was odd that QF could not access these seats.

They put me on hold and checked with their ticketing people who said the problem was the mixed class scenario on the same ticket and that CX didn't allow it but that I could do two separate bookings.

All fine and dandy, taxes the same either way but the problem is now I have two separate tickets & pnrs so I won't be able to through check the bags BNE/YVR and will need to recheck in HKG as the travel is after 01 Sep.

This was the error response I got when I was trying to do a multi city mixed class fare in the same booking so it would be on the same ticket.

might be worth taking to a travel agent? QF are pretty bad for processing their own bookings over the phone I've found.

And once again, this thread illustrates the issues with the QF online bookings for "complex" (or not) itineraries, as well as the non-check through of baggage with separate pnrs.

QF isn't alone... I just tried to price PHX-PER with Cathay Pacific online (PEY) and got an invalid routing
AA from PHX to LAX gives a 2.5 hour connection...

Happy wandering

Fred

I appreciate the responses. Amazing that QF and others make it so hard to book their products.
