Re: Upgrade Fairy today

EK treats QF elites better than QF treats QF elites

Yes it would seem so. We have been flying internationally with QF for leisure many years, always in J, mostly long haul and this is the first time we have been upgraded.

Well done, op-ups seem to be somewhat of a rare beast these days.

Across 18 months I did a total of 24 SIN-BNE EK flights booked in J using the QF codeshare flight number. The upgrade fairy delivered a J -> F upgrade on around 65% of these flights. The upgrade didn't appear to be linked to J class being oversold. As a P1 non requested upgrades on QF appear to come from two sources - the P1 SST and when the flight is under airport control. The P1 SST will tag the boarding pass with the "enjoy the flight from the P1 team" quote. This occurs around every 10 flights. Depending on the flight it may go under airport control around 24hrs prior to departure. If one of the cabins is oversold you may get the "red light" when scanning your boarding pass and be given an upgraded boarding pass.

A J->F op-up can happen because Y is oversold too (they bump you to F to make room in J for someone from Y).

Re: Upgrade Fairy today

I've had the J to F upgrade on 3 of the last 4 EK metal QF flight number trips

Re: Upgrade Fairy today

Two of us are at 75% on our last 4 J flights bumped to F on EK.

Re: Upgrade Fairy today

Yep, I've had 2 upgrades from economy to business on Emirates with QF flight number. And one downgrade on QF...I'm platinum.

Re: Upgrade Fairy today

I once asked for a possible J > F upgrade at AKL EK check in but no.
Was on a paid J ticketed by QF EK metal flight.
So the trick is not to ask for it eh?
If it happens without asking good, if not its just not my luck.

Re: Upgrade Fairy today

You need to be on the right flights.

Op-up to business yesterday SIN-MEL flight. Oversold in economy. Seq #691 may not mean much but gives you some idea.

I thought that very likely given the loading, but didn't want to jinx it by saying such.

Me neither. Shame I slept the whole flight except for the 2 meals. Would have loved to enjoy the product.

Re: Upgrade Fairy today

Given that you slept for most of the flight, one could argue that you did in-fact enjoy the product. ;)
Sleeping is not the reason I book flights especially in business class. It is a waste of money. I would have slept just as easily in economy. In fact out of 9 flights I think I slept through 7 take-offs, possibly 8.

Yep I'm exactly the same; I usually sleep through take offs, and if I'm tired I sleep through landing, waking up only after touch down. Most people I've ever travelled with continue to curse and swear at me... :)

It's the few glasses of Hennassay Paradise I use as a nightcap that does it for me!

That happens when you snore and keep everyone else awake.

EK take note and dish out those op-ups to those of us not so lucky to sleep :p
