I think my biggest day was around 14km followed by a visit to MOMA!

So our journey has been over for a couple of weeks, back to reality. People have spoken on this forum about walking New York, we were there for 10 days, clocked up a total of 259klms with our biggest day 26.2k. Probably only experienced 25% of what is a huge place to visit, loved the sights, the places and the people watching (especially the ratbags of which there were many)

We stayed 10 days across the river in Edgewater in a motel also with a kitchenette. A lot cheaper than NYC even taking into account the cost of the ferry, which was a peaceful journey.

So we paid $184 per night plus taxes, so you are not much above us. $9 each way on the ferry, but if you buy a seven day pass it is unlimited rides. We stayed at the Hilton in Edgewater, included breakfast and happy hour food and drinks Monday to Thursday. Food for that happy hour was so so, but drinks are drinks. Plus they run a shuttle to the ferry, and they pick you up when you come back. Also when you go over on the ferry free bus rides on their transit rides to and from the terminal to most parts of NYC.

Getting in there is not as easy as it used to be. Go to the office across the street from the UN Building visitors entry and line up for a pass. Produce yr passport so that they can copy it and give you misspelled name name sticker for your shirt. Cross the street back to the UN entry and flash the sticker now on your front.

See the Chagall window. and a few other really good artworks. You can find a window to look into the GA hall, nothing going on when I was there. But there was an indigenous peoples conference somewhere there and all sorts of costumed people from all over the world wandering around.

I found it quite interesting. I went on the tour and saw many conference rooms and got a fantastic explanation about how the place works. Would recommend it to anybody with an interest in the world.

That depends ... what sort of things might you be interested in / how much luggage space and weight you have / whether to justify a whole day (wasted), and the expense to get there etc.

There are many places in the city to buy things cheaply. Maybe have a look at these before committing yourself : T.J. Maxx, Burlington, Century 21, Macy's etc. I haven't been to those 'Premium Outlets', but a few others across the US and I don't bother any more - especially in NYC where there's sooo much more worthy things to do.

Yes I've been to Woodbury Commons several times. It's a fairly good outlet mall. Compares favourably with any I've been to in the West Coast. I'd agree with get me outta here though that it depends on how long you are in NY and if you have the opportunity to shop elsewhere.
I'm a big fan of outlets so I think it's worthwhile.

If it is going to be your one and only time in New York City then I would not go out to Woodbury outlets, because it is a whole day and if you only have 7 days there, there is just too much to see and do in NYC. And there is some good shopping in the city. I love Lord and Taylors on 5th Ave - and if they have a sale on it is great !
But on the other hand - our son lived in NYC for 5 years so I have been to Woodbury numerous times, and I agree with Princess Fiona they are a great outlet centre, so if you are like me and have a black belt in shopping and need a shopping fix then I would go !

Thanks get me outta here and Princess Fiona. I'll be in NYC for 7 days and no issue with luggage space . Think I'll look around the shops in NYC as suggested and decide if there is time for Woodbury. Had a list going on things to see and do and wonder if we can fit it all in. There's always a good excuse for a 2nd, 3rd or 4th trip back to NY

Burlington can have some surprises. I saw a YSL mini classic duffel in beige the other day for $480. I couldn't find an accessories assistant to open up the glass case for me to look at it so I left in a huff. Went back today and of course it's gone
