QF502 (SYD-BNE) this Friday swapped from B737 to A332, and this is what the seat selection in MMB looks like:

A332.JPG

I've cross-referenced the seat maps on the Qantas website (Seat Maps for the Airbus 330-200 | Qantas), and the only A332 config with 36J seats and the galley between rows 3 & 4 appears to be the 'international' one with Sky Bed Mk1, i.e. EBG/EBL.

Anyone with a EF subscription care to check whether I'm on the right track? If it is EBG/EBL, does this have any bearing on the next A332 to be re-furbed?

A number of airlines chose staggered too. Why is herringbone better in your opinion? I prefer staggered

I flew on a VN 787 last week in reverse herringbone and must say much prefer the staggered approach.

I found it awkward sitting essentially at an angle and when it comes to seat space found it to be no more or no less than the Qantas A330 approach. Then of course the IFE couldn't be used until in the air, whereas when it is smack bang in front it can be used straight away.

Does look like EBG/EBL.

While it roughly lines up with QPJ's expected departure date, these aircraft routinely do domestic legs.
eg. on 20/5 EBG operated SYD-BNE-SYD-MEL-SYD-HNL

Don't get your hopes up, 2fall4Y, because they could easily do another equipment swap back to the 737.
Take it from experience, I have had 1 330 cancelled and 1 equipment swap for next next Sat.
Someone at QF seems to deem it fun to do swaps willy nilly for what ever reason, whether the 330 going technical or not enough people booking the flight to make the 330 worthwhile to fly.

Pretty sure we'll be seeing more of this in the coming months. QF is has been pretty public about reducing capacity and subbing A330's with 737's is one way of doing so.

Don't be chasing refurb's domestically.

A permanent switch of some refurbed A330s to a trans-Tasman route, in time, would be very welcome...

Although then the switch to a 737 would still be very painful.

To be clear, this is part of a SYD-BNE-TSV-BNE-SYD status run, and I was fully expecting to do whole trip on B737s. My main concern with a sub back to B737 would be losing my seat assignment - rows 2 & 3 on the B737 don't have a lot of knee-room for a seven footer :(

All cool. I was making a general statement rather than directing it to you. Status run away :)

Don't see it for a while. The only advantage QF has on Trans Tasman is schedule and you lose that with upgauging.

Plus there aren't many more international A330 routes they can cut, and I don't think people would like to see 737 subbed for 330s any more on Perth routes

Whilst people won't like it, I'm sure we will see some A330's re-deployed away from the cross country treks. Particularly with VA's deal with Hainan, I think we will see some VA 330's operating overseas for the first time... which in turn reduces the competitive pressure on QF to operate A330's across to Perth... so could be seeing some more A330-2 flying to Asia.

And as things go, reading that VA is applying to IASC for traffic rights to HKG and PEK.

Ok, I've been keeping track of this thread, but not sure on odds of a refurb still. I'm looking at PER-SYD, arriving in time to connect to a 4pm TG flight (so Dom-int obviously).

Anyone recommend a non-red eye flight with good odds? Specifically on the 21st sept.

moa999, since I too lose track with the numerous contributions to this thread, why isn't QF constantly having an A332 in the hangar to refurbish it given that there are nine remaining to receive attention?

Only 7 left! (EBM which is due in in the next week, then the 4 workspace aircraft EBO-EBR and the 2 remaining SkyBed aircraft EBG/EBL)

But they also have regular maintenance to do - EBA and EBC have been in for 7-13 days in the last month and EBB is there at the moment (all are already refurbs, and would expect EBD will need a similar check in the next couple of months)

And they have recently cycled 2 HA aircraft for checks as well

Way too far out for any patterns, but with 3.5 months out and only 7 aircraft to go it will be very close to saying every route by then (depending if they do 1 or 2 at a time over the next few months, and any other maintenance demands)

VH-QPJ back in service today operating QF97
VH-QPG off to get repainted operating QF53

Is VH-EBB the only A330 now at the Brisbane Maintenance Facility?.

Looks like QF574 is the only option.

From what I can tell yes.
Expect it out in the next few days so EBM can enter.

My current thinking is that only QPG will be painted at this time QPH,QPI,QPJ are a good 12 months younger and they could well wait until their next C-check
