Hi all,

As the heading notes, Hertz now Mustang GT 5.0L V8 coupes at Melbourne and Sydney, both airport and downtown locations.

A couple of dummy searches shows price starts at about $225 a day. It appears the excess is $8,250+++, which it appears can be reduced to $0 with MAX cover at $40 a day.

Nice!

Good to see Hertz adding more exciting cars to its fleet.

Hey AdMEL, I just rented this for a weekend to review for RideHacks. It was totally the polar-opposite to the Tesla Model S I had the previous week :)

I loved it. Anyone who loves driving will keep a smile on their face with this car. It's just fun. This being said, I really wouldn't buy one.

The cost is $225 from the airport for a day, or roughly $450 for two days. It will be cheaper from the city but they don't have any stock there yet.

As for insurance, I wrote a comprehensive (10k+ words) guide on rental insurance but the key takeaways are this:
- Never accept excess reduction, it's always the worst deal UNLESS you plan to take up off-road or snow cover. Without that, you have no insurance.
- If you have the Amex Platinum Charge card and you are renting in Sydney (more than 150km from your home) then it provides the best coverage of any rental excess.
- The third-party policies are your next-best option: Hiccup, Tripcover etc.

You can Google: 'ridehacks insurance' for the guide I was taking about.

Hope this is helpful :)

Hi toddheslin, Tesla S sounds like fun! Whilst I haven't rented a Mustang from Hertz in Australia, I have rented a GT convertible from Avis in Hawaii, for a few days. By comparison, I've driven a V6 Camaro and an SS Camaro, each several thousand miles over several weeks in the US. I have to say I wasn't impressed with the Mustang - much prefer the Camaro. Camaro inspires confidence, whereas the Mustang doesn't, primarily due to the long nose, which points up!

Hertz had Mustangs at Melbourne Downtown when I was there a couple of weeks ago and when I checked pricing, it was actually slightly more expensive to rent from Downtown than the airport, which is unusual.

A mate of mine rented the underpowered mustang in Hawaii last year and agreed the V8 was much better. Too right about the nose though...I would hate for this to be a daily driver. This being said, it feels like an old muscle car with the lack of visibility and shiftiness on the road. It was kinda fitting :)

When you get a chance to check out the Mustang here, I'd love to hear what you think.
