I put in an upgrade request MEL-SYD and it didn't clear straightaway and I was waitlisted. However, the flight shows U6 on EF. I was under the impression if there was award availability then the upgrade cleared straight away?

The same thing happened to me last week for 3 bookings. I rang the CS and she checked, confirmed I had upgrade request registered, confirmed there were upgradeable seats for the flights and manually processed them for me. She tried to troubleshoot the problem with me on one of the 3 flights. She suggested I best not to click on the upgrade button on the "Your Bookings" summary listing but to choose for the upgrade once in each booking's details. Haven't tried to check if that made a difference. QF website not fully up at the moment so a fix might come out of this. Otherwise, just ring CS pronto before the upgradeable seats are taken.

I had the same problem last week. The whitelist cleared but it was still annoying.

Thanks. Called them and she could see the same and processed the upgrade. She said that they had changed the way domestic flight upgrades were processed when part of an international itinerary which meant they automatically waitlisted as per normal international upgrades rules even in U class was available (itin is AKL-MEL-SYD-AKL).
