Just wondering if you have any further news on this situation? I also applied and was approved but closed my ANZ QFF card only a month or two ago. I'm going to call tomorrow to find out the nitty gritty but was wondering if you'd heard anything? Like you, I didn't exactly read the T&Cs!
Yep, I received the card and paperwork, no mention of the first year free.
I called them and asked to be put through to retentions. I explained the situation and the person was well aware of when I last held this card and confirmed my ineligibility.
I asked if i could be product swapped to the rewards black card (prefer velocity points anyway) as i believe i'm eligible for that promo. He confirmed that I was eligible as the FF & rewards cards are seperate products, but doing a direct product transfer wouldn't make me eligible for the promo. I'd have to cancel the FF card and apply for the rewards card from scratch.
I asked if that'd result in a new credit hit, and would it make a difference to my application. He put me on hold and talked to the credit assessment team, he confirmed that it would result in a second hit to my credit file, but the assessment team wouldn't hold it against me.
Anyway, I cancelled the card, reapplied for the rewards black and have received the card and paperwork, clearly stating the first year waiver. No mention of the 75k points on the paperwork, but the FF card didn't say that the first time i applied for it in 2014 either.
Interestingly, being a veda subscriber I note no 2nd hit to my credit file, the first one is there but it's like they didn't bother to do a second credit check when I applied for the 2nd card.
