Not surprising having this happen, although I doubt it's that common. For a voyeur, airbnb is probably a godsend as they can make money AND film unsuspecting guests. Being a frequent user while travelling it has crossed my mind in the past, but nothing more really.

This has gone through my head the last few times I stayed in Airbnbs. I guess it's just an inherent risk in travelling like that.

It has crossed my mind a gazillion times - as does the whole scrutiny concept. Just how many keys / how many people have the ability to enter the accomodation you have rented without your knowledge.

Yes I fully understand hotel employees can come and go also and you have no knowledge also but I know where I would feel more secure - but sorry for going OT.

Sure a few hidden CCTV cameras could be planted in an Airbnb property, but it too could happen in a hotel too with the wrong personnel involved.

The last AirBnB I stayed in was owned by techies and there was all sorts of things that I didn't recognise so I immediately assumed that they were watching and so was on my best guest behaviour. I just hoped the bedroom was clear.

Quick detour OT: I had a staff member barge in to my room at the Grand Hyatt Singapore the other day while just sitting on the couch. Lucky it was all kosher because there was no knocking involved. Fairly sure he thought the room was empty.

Hilariously, all he could say was "Is everything all right in here? Can I get you anything?" ... "Um, yeah mate, everything's fine, thanks."

And then the next day, I had just got out of the shower and another guy came in for turndown. I was still in the dressing stage. He calls out and I say I am fine, but he still poked his head around the corner. Seriously! Thank god it was a suite, otherwise he would have been right there in the bedroom with me. Staff were great otherwise though. :D

So yeah, it does make you think!

Use the double locking mechanism on the door. I certainly do at all times unless expecting something.

I usually always do, but the one time I say to myself oh, it'll be fine, I get a visitor!

But unlike cameras in Airbnb proprieties, hotels do need access to rooms in order to provide their service so I'm fairly understanding.

It's odd. I spend a lot of time in hotels and have never had this happen to me, ever! I never double lock the doors either.

Maybe I'm not home enough during the day and people are traipsing back and forth? :)
