I'm going to Hong Kong for work next month and would like to buy a ticket for my wife.

Outbound flights are extremely reasonable $400-500 but the return leg is $1200+.

Is it possible to use my points to pay for that return leg? I haven't had any luck on the Qantas site as yet.

Apologies - I didn't want to create a new thread for this, but couldn't find anything relevant.

Yes you can use points for a one way award, if there is an award available. But that would mean buying a one way cash fare to hong kong. The price of one way international fares is much higher than the cost for return. So best check the one way price of the outbound first. Otherwise look for return awards.

I think you can buy a return ticket using $$ out and points back on the QF website (assuming a classic Y available on the return...)

Yes, you can certainly book a one way flight on points.

Just ran a few searches without luck.
I presume this simply means Qantas hasn't allocated award seats on any of the flights that day (or they've been taken?)

Flight Search error:
Qantas.com flight search error:
We are unable to find the requested outbound on any departing flights of the airlines that we search. (# 9200)

What route and dates are you looking to get?

True

looks like no award seats in Y, HKG-SYD all Feb, first available after that from 7 March...

Maybe use points+pay if an award seat is not available? Not the best use of points value-wise but at least it isn't cash out of pocket.

CX has a seat available on 18 Feb (through QFF) in Y and there is a J seat on 23 Feb, next availability is 29 and then March looks OK for Y awards. Suppose it will come down to the dates you want/need.

Do you have any status with QF?, if so you could try calling up and requesting an award seat to be released if you don;t have luck with anything else.
