before i start booking my flights to the US this year (Most of July and a bit of August) who would offer the best/reasonably priced comfortable flight over there, including lounge access... if that makes sense.
we are looking to go direct to dallas from Sydney, or are there better ways... dont mind who we fly with, just need it to be comfortable... last time i went i spent the whole time on holidays feeling ill and sore due to the cramped conditions... never had that happen before on flights, as the longest i had been on before was 4 hours. If i am asking in the wrong place i am sorry... I am a total newbie in regards to travel forums...

thanks in advance

I think we need a little more information on what class of travel you are considering - and whether you have any airline status.

If you are asking what airline has the best whY, I can't help. If you are asking what is the best compromise, try QF PE SYD-DFW. You couldn't go wrong - and it would enhance your chances of an upgrade to J. But, as always, that is highly status-dependent.

It also depends where you are going after hitting the deck in the US. DFW is, IMO, a great entry point if you are connecting to other AA destinations. Clearing immigration is SMOOTH and FAST.

Thanks for the reply John,

not sure what you mean by status... I have Bronze QFF, and I think Velocity Red.

premium economy is an option for sure.

we are planning on landing at Dallas, spending a day there, then driving to orlando (taking about 4-5 days to get there) then spending a few days at orlando, then taking a cruise (not sure where yet) for a few days. after that flying to Grand Rapids to see family (via either Michigan or Chicago)

I have one Priority Pass (Comp from my Citibank Signature Rewards) and possibly looking at a Admirals club 30 day membership for lounge access (Used that two years ago, and thought it was worthwhile)

Happy for any further input.

cheers

If you are wanting to go straight to DFW from SYD, then QF is your only option. Bronze FF status will count for nothing, so I would suggest searching early for any PE Sale seats (may be hard to get on such a popular route as SYD-DFW - but the earlier you try, the better). Upgrade chances would be zilch as Bronze - especially for >1 seat.

PE is considerably more tolerable than whY. I've only ever done it once on a QF747. I think row 32 on the A380 is a reasonable PE selection if you don't want to pay for the exit rows (24 & 35).

Otherwise, get in early and select 80A or K or 71D in whY and pay the bit extra for those. Mind you, that will only solve the whY problems for one of your party.

On our last USA trip, we flew Qantas and found the A380 to be very comfortable. I am 6 feet tall with long legs and found the leg room to be decent. With Bronze QFF and on USA route, changes are almost non existence to find an upgrade to J.

Also as mentioned by JohnM, QF is the only direct flight on your route but if you dont mind stopovers, there are many other options at cheaper prices.

For ex, leaving Sydney first week of July, you can get direct QF return economy for around $2020 and with a single stop overs, you can still get flights from $1600 onwards.

What was it about your last holiday you did that took you so long to recover? What airline, flight, sectors, seat numbers did you have that made the journey uncomfortable?

You could get another 30 day Admirals Club membership for this trip which you could use for the SYD J Lounge then the Admirals Club at DFW. There were reports a few months ago that to access the QF Lounges in Australia that you had to be booked on an AA codeshare flight however with the recent QF/AA transpac codeshare agreement I believe they have abolished that rule.

There were reports by AFFers recently that the QF BNE Lounges were fine with pax booked on QF flights (ie not AA codeshare operated by QF metal) and allowed into the lounge using their Admirals Club 30 day membership. QF in MEL hadn't quite embraced the new changes apparently.
