Hi guys,

I'll be flying round the world in 4 weeks on a regular multi-city booking and am wondering what my baggage allowance is going to be.
Following legs:

  • MEL - DXB QF9
  • DXB - DUS QF8055
  • DUS - OSL SK819
  • OSL - LHR BA761
  • LHR - MEL (via LAX) BA269 and QF94

I am QF Silver and their website isn't very clear about baggage allowance. I know that I can take 2*23kgs to Europe and 3*23kgs from the US to Australia. I am unclear on those European flights and in the end my resulting baggage allowance overall. Is it 3*23kgs or 2*23kgs or maybe even just 1*23kgs (I guess that's the standard inner European allowance on SK and BA)?!

It's all booked as one booking and all shows up in my Qantas online portal.

Cheers
David

My understanding is that the maximum amount of checked luggage for any leg will apply to the whole booking but I could be wrong!

So it should be your US-AUS flights + Silver allowance

Alright, checked with the travel agent and Qantas directly. Both gave me the same answer, unfortunately.

MEL - DXB - DUS is whatever my QF status gives me.
DUS - OSL is whatever Scandinavian Airlines gives me. They are Star Alliance, so I won't be getting anything special. So 1 piece, 23kgs.
OSL - LHR might give me my QF allowance, because it's OneWorld, but neither Travel Agent nor Qantas could guarantee this.
LHR - LAX - MEL, first leg is BA, so again might give me whatever BA would give a QF silver, LAX - MEL 3 pieces with 23kgs.

I learned that just because it all shows up in my QF booking it doesn't mean that the Travel Agent might not have gone and booked everything directly with the airlines (like SK or BA).

In my case I've got two options:
- buy the extra baggage allowance
- fly with one bag 23kgs (lowest allowance on all legs)

:(

Hi guys,

I'll be flying round the world in 4 weeks on a regular multi-city booking and am wondering what my baggage allowance is going to be.
Following legs:

  • MEL - DXB QF9 - QF silver allowance which is 42kg
  • DXB - DUS QF8055 - QF silver allowance 42kg
  • DUS - OSL SK819 - standard SK allowance - 1 x 23kg piece
  • OSL - LHR BA761 - standard BA allowance - 1 x 23kg piece
  • LHR - MEL (via LAX) BA269 and QF94 - 1 x 23kg piece

For LHR-LAX-MEL the baggage carrier applicable is BA as they are the first carrier to cross between conference areas. Therefore QF rules won't apply at all. BA does not provide extra allowances to oneworld rubies. QF elite allowances also only apply to QF metal or EK metal.
