Re: 2015 in review

2015 was actually the first year I haven't flown in as long as I can remember.
I have plans to rectify that in 2016 with at least one OS holiday booked and a lot of travel for work.
Can't wait!!!

My Flight activity in 2015

500th Qantas flight. It wasn't between ADL and SYD. Otherwise, See below

I did my 50th this year, so roughly once a month since back in the times when I was a NB. Don't have much domestic flying myself so my sectors are easier to count. :)

Re: My Flight activity in 2015

Somewhat harder to keep track of your total flight history when it started a couple of decades before frequent flyer programs...

But I'm wandering

I only kept track of my flights since e-ticketing became widespread because it's easy to search for itineraries in my emails.

We're definitely luckier in this day and age where we have easy access to spreadsheets and databases if we want to use these tools. I know I've done a few flights back in the late 80s and early 90s when I was a kid but obviously virtually impossible to track back now.

Only one I can be absolutely certain of was HKG-xSIN-SYD on QF, departing HKG late in Nov 1993. The HKG-SIN sector I think it was a 767, and the sector to SYD was a 747.

And then another QF flight SYD-NRT, may be late 90s or early 2000s, on a 743 which abandoned the landing in a storm when we were roughly level with the wind sock. Remember seeing forecasts for that day was winds gusting to 45 knots with roughly half of that being the crosswind component, but no idea what the actual conditions were.

Oh I agree. I'm missing so many flights in my flightdiary as I have zero records of most of my flying pre-2008.

Lucky to not be so old to make that an issue. ;)

Only really had a handful of flights before joining QFF in 1996. Mostly with Compass and Ansett, also TAA at times, but I can remember those routes. Also big RTW in 1978/79. Still remember watching Force 10 from Navarone on the big screen to london. Flying was very much the exception back then mostly driving or the Sunlander.

Anyway, 500th Qantas flight was in midyear when I did a few trips to BNE, give or take the uncertainty I'm as confident as I can be about the details. Think I would die if that milestone was on one of the regular ADL/SYD flights.

I wonder if QFF has that kind of historical data. Would be amazing for them to chart it for you on a world map.

I've made my best effort here: OpenFlights.org: Flight logging, mapping, stats and sharing
Can filter by airline. Shame about the massive line between ADL and SYD obscuring things.

the Round the world was BNE-SYD(daylight savings mix up)-MEL (baggage handlers/Refuellers strike)-SIN-Bahrain-LHR-LAX-HNL-AKL-Australia (possibly SYD-BNE). QF, BA and Pan Am, as best the story goes. Unfortunately the parentals have no specific flight details that I can find.

Looking at the aircraft breakdown you must only be a year or two away from having a 737-800 named after you!

Re: 2015 in review

This is so fun! I was thinking about this the other day and had no one to share it with. There's nothing wankier than sitting down to dinner with your friends to proclaim your 2015 stats:

42 flights
96,083 km
20 airports (a lot of SIN, which is happily becoming my home away from home)
12 countries
7 carriers

...and counting. Sitting in the GH Berlin lounge right now, about to head off to CPH for Christmas with the parents.

It's nothing on the rest of you but I'm pretty proud of my efforts being almost entirely self-funded. Re-qualified WP in the process, and then some, meaning I could gift Mum SG status for the next year. That was totally worth it. She'll love it.

Thanks for a wonderful year AFFers.

I did a few flights in 1990 and 1994 and still remember them. I have a few more flights in 2003 and 2004 and I remember these as well.

Then from 2005 onwards it starts to become blurry. I started to become adventurous and in March joined AFF and became even more corrupted.

The fun continues.

Re: 2015 in review

43 flights
41770 miles
105 hours flying time
16 J flights, 2 F flights, 1 PE flight, 24 Y flights
Airlines: QF, PG, CX, QR, UL, MH, EK

New airlines: UL
New airports: USM
New country: Thailand

Re: 2015 in review

206 flights this year, a bit less than 2014.

Mostly boring work travel but I've managed to find time for some leisure F travel as well:
QFx4, JLx3, TGx3, CXx2, EKx2, EYx2, LHx1.

Re: 2015 in review

Not a massive year by sector count, by SG retained easily enough. 2014 had more sectors, more airports and more F but less Miles! Guess i've done more long haul less short haul this year!

14 sectors; 32124 mi
New AP: YVR
Visits: MEL 5 SYD 4 LAX 2 DFW 1 HKG 1 YVR 1
Sectors: Y 35% J 50% F 15%
By miles: Y 6% J 64% F 27%

Re: 2015 in review

Quite a few mundane J flights and even a couple of short hops in Y, but my F flights were:

UA: 1
BA: 1
TG: 2
EY: 2 (one on the A380)
JL: 3
EK: 4
CX: 5
NH: 6

I still find that the JL and NH flights are the ones I look forward to most.
