Qantas Gold/Platinum upgrades on Finnair

Hi all,

I'm not sure if I m incredibly lucky, or if this is an everyday occurrence. I have had a few AY flights recently as both a Qantas Gold and now Platinum, and have been able to select Economy Comfort seats free of charge on all my bookings, when I have only booked Y. It's not much extra, but 4 inches of extra leg room, and an amenities kit is a nice touch for free!

Just thought I would share this if someone was deciding on Finnair vs another carrier.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have only ever flown in J on Finnair, but on other OneWorld carriers, such as BA, IB, AA, AB and CX, I've been able to take advantage of preferred seating and free selections, when QF WP or better. It is a good benefit of the alliance.

I also have heard of preferred seating (ie exit rows etc). But a free upgrade every time to another class? This is a pretty good deal!

I just went online and sure enough economy comfort is available (and now, of course, booked too) as QFF Gold

Yep I have had an upgrade and free premium seat selection on AY. Have also asked for and received amenity kit in Y non-comfort bulkhead after asking. Nice little lounge in HEL.

By the way do we know if this is a limited promo or?

No idea. I had the upgraded seat selection for a booking back in october, and have another coming up in January. So this has been going on for a little while. I'm not sure its a promo, or just that Oneworld sapphire and above get offered Economy comfort seats.

Economy comfort on Finnair is treated more like Main Cabin Extra on American, it's not classed as a Premium Economy product which is probably why as a Gold/Platinum you were able to select the seat free of charge.

I ended up using the bidding to get a business class upgrade for 100 Euro. That's a $2600 upgrade for $150. Bargain! Bring on the reindeer entrecote and smoked herring!

What aircraft were you on? And how was it?

I have not flown yet. PVG-HEL on Monday in the new A350. Will let you know how it goes!
