If it ain't there you can't use it.
New terminals and CAT III. Maybe PER can be considered a proper airport in a couple of years.

How many Australian airports offer CAT111?

A quick search says MEL runway 16 is the only one at the moment.

There was a short article about a SYD runway going to CAT II capability. Unclear if that was actually implemented.

The discussion from various threads regarding the use of PER as a western gateway (ME or Europe) indicated that the lack of a serious alternative airport within 1000 miles significantly lowered the ability to consider the option. Cat III would help although an alternative airport choice is still a requirement. Anyone for heavy duty runways and taxiways at KGI?

Interesting move. Obviously long haul tourism is a factor. There was that incident with the QF bird out of SIN that showed the risks without close alternatives

Clearly QF have dropped that idea with the withdrawal of almost all INT services.

Maybe SQ with its (4 ?) flights a day have used up all the allocated international runway time?
