There are a range of websites that offer a service for travellers to meet up with others, or even to connect those who will travel to a similar destination at the same time. A quick google search shows lots of options, TravelTogether, Tripr, Wandermates, etc.

Does anyone here have any experience of these sites or could suggest/recommend something similar. I understand that there are FA and crew sites/apps that have similar functions, but I feel like it would be a little creepy for non-crew to try to get involved in these (I bet plenty try).

I thought something like Tripadvisor might offer a service, but they don't seem to. Anyway, thanks if you can provide any advice.

ps. Alternate plan is to plan a trip where I can visit as many AFF members as possible, anywhere in the world, even better if you are travelling at the time ! Could be an interesting way to build a RTW itinerary :)

I usually find that I meet people while I'm travelling anyway (especially if travelling by myself), be it in hostels, bars, on tours or elsewhere.

One website I have used though is Couchsurfing. It's main function is to connect travellers with local "hosts" that are able to provide accommodation, but it can also be used to meet people while you are travelling. I've had only positive experiences with the site so far.

I vaguely recall a website/app a few years back for airport meetups. A little creepy for my liking. I guess some could say the same for AFF but I find it different.

I agree with this. Flyertalk is also good for meets. Another option is to join a Facebook community.
The lounge meeting threads appear to have died but there are many possibilities to meet people with all the DOs organised.

I don't think the lounge meetup threads have died. I still post my flight details where I am able to guest, and have met several AFFers that I have been able to guest lounge access to this year alone.

The lounge meetup threads on AFF are great. I was referring to Flyertalk.

I agree that AFF lounge meet up threads are great. My last minute travel makes this hard for me, but I've had a few good meetings over several years. But I seem to miss Boomy by 10-15 mins regularly !

I'll try to arrive 10-15 min earlier next time :D

My work travel schedule has changed recently from monthly to weekly bookings so I've stopped posting in the lounge thread but I'm still keeping an eye on it, it's a great place to meet interesting people.

I am the same, my travel is usually at such short notice, or changes so often, or is travel with others (clients for example), that I don't often put the details into the lounge meet-up thread - the other option for really last minute meetups is the "Im in the XX lounge" threads which aren't used that often (it seems like less than one person per day posts there) so its rare to actually be in the lounge at the same time.

Anyway, back on topic, if anyone else has suggestions on other travel meeting apps. A couple of Qld'ers started one called Outbound which looks pretty good, anyone have experience of this ?

The FT meeting in Bangkok thread is active and I had the pleasure of meeting an FTer on Halloween. I also had the pleasure of meeting Dr Ron and Mrs Dr Ron the next evening after working out where they were on AFF. :)

Well worth the effort when travelling.

I have forgotten about that thread. Or maybe I never knew about it.
