We're thinking of wandering around the McLaren Vale on Monday (2 Nov). Does anyone have any "must visit" or "can't miss" wineries?

All suggestions welcome :)

Yes, Samuels Gorge. I wanted to take the group there but they can only fit about 8  If you go you will thank me for it! (Hopefully, otherwise you will tell me my taste in cellar doors is utter cough)

The wine may not be the best bit if you want quirky, Alpha Box and Dice.

Also ekhidna they also make beer but there is a small fee to taste a flight.

If you go to Samuels, right next door is Chapel Hill.

If you want to taste olives and olive oil, the olive grove is worth a visit.

Edit to add Kays Amery, how could I forget

Try Langhorne Creek? Lake Breeze winery for meal then check out all the rest.
45 minutes up the Freeway.

d'Arenberg and Wirra Wirra are old favourites of mine when I get a chance to get back and, if you get wine-fatigue, Maxwell's is another favourite for their meads (they do wine as well but I've never tried it, as it's always my last stop and I'm wine'd-out by then).

I've not been to Woodstock in years but they used to do excellent pizzas there.

Chapel Hill and Woodstock. There's an information centre as you drive into McLaren Vale which has a map of all the vineyards and their amenities IIRC

Coriole has a beautiful garden which is a lovely outdoor spot for a glass of wine and/or lunch if it's a nice day.

It has just occurred to me that not all places might be open on a Monday - maybe best to check online first.

If you are after a cleanser at the end of the day, the Victory Hotel at Sellicks Beach is a must. Not too much further south of the Vale. Enjoy a cold beer on the deck looking out over the ocean. Simply beautiful.

Cheers

Mat
