We flew QF 589 last week. The following day I received this email:

Ref: 2015/210961

Dear Mr_Orange,

We’re sorry your in-flight entertainment was not available

We do everything we can to make sure your flight with us is an enjoyable one. I can imagine how disappointing it must have been not to be able to use the in-flight entertainment system on your recent flight QF589 from Brisbane to Perth yesterday.

While all efforts were made by cabin crew to rectify the issue, our options were limited on this occasion and we do recognise the impact this had on your journey.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding throughout the situation and I do hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you aboard Qantas soon.

Thank you

Best regards

LOL, there was nothing wrong with the IFE . Would have been nice to have been offered the 5000 QF points others seem to have got for non-working IFE for my working IFE!

How interesting! Our IFE wasn't working last Saturday from BNE-CBR on QF1549, but it was the Q-streaming so wonder if it's different (although it's a much shorter flight than BNE-PER!). Maybe that email was meant to go to me ;)
