Platinum One - Worth it for 400SCs?

I am probably about 100 short for my P1 renewal at end September. I am absolutely going to grab a cheap J fare to retain. I value the ability to release seats on awards, the SST who are always very helpful, consistent complementary upgrades to F on at least one leg of every Europe trip, partner platinum, and event invites (going to my second in 2 months next week).

Sounds like great treatment and well done. 100SC is different to 400 as the OP is dealing with of course. It makes perfect sense to "go there" :)

enjoy another year of P1!

P1 has been very good for me and I will be sorry to lose at the end of July 2017. If you have a fair bit of international travel it is probably more beneficial. The majority of my travel is international and I wouldn't think twice about chasing 400 SC's.

With the DSC brigade and mASA peeps (I am in the latter category) being culled I would expect the benefits to only get better.

Are you suggesting you have reached 3600 SC since August 1 this year?!!!! Or are you simply saying you have enough bookings/plans to make it prior to July, 2016?

LOL Just wishful thinking! Will be July 2016 when I lose P1!!

(I'll be crediting 6000 TP's to BA instead)

Why not continue to earn and utilise P1?

While I can't answer for TonyHancock, this would be my take on BA Gold or above vs QF P1.
If you're more often than not in a premium cabin on ANY Oneworld airline - the value of BAEC multiples quickly.

Below is a small part of my analysis of 2.7 million calculations of everyone oneworld flight, in everyone oneworld FF program, in every possible revenue fare class - then put against the exact same measurements for award inventory that is the cost vs miles on *EVERY* segment on all ~10,000 Oneworld flights.

Status aside - there's a clear winner here:

X asis is booking class value from left to right, Y is value of miles in USD$ - so the most further right value is point value in full 'F'

.... until they devalue it at some point. Of course those who have Gold for life (OWE) would be pretty happy

Looks impressive but what is what in terms of the colours?

I'd say each colour represents a oneworld carrier's FFP so BA is the orange-y one.

a legend would be helpful, ie which is the bottom one, and what colour is QFF :)

You're correct each colour is a oneworld program. Saving the full report for my blog and perhaps LinkedIn later next week :p

Why not continue to earn and utilise P1?

It is a cost thing to begin with. I became one of those awful mASA types so with their decline I needed to review my situation. As trippin posted it makes sense to credit BA.

QF pricing is just too expensive and with 5-6 trips to the UK each year, that more often than not are planned 10-12 months out I can utilise some of the excellent BA ex EU pricing for J. I quite like the upgrade certificates that can be used to upgrade rewards flights as well as revenue flights, and the jokers that force open rewards availability are very useful. I have some UK colleagues who will be delighted when I hand them BA Silver (2) and BA Gold status too.

I am not the greatest fan of the QF droop bed and am probably in a small minority that really likes the BA Club World seat. (The new J Suites on the QF A330's are very good though.)

I really will be sorry to lose P1 status but in the end simpler and fairer did for me. It wasn't just one thing, it started with the removal of the mASA and was compounded by the reduced OW earning. I looked elsewhere and the grass is certainly greener for me at the moment. As RichardMel posts though it is good until the next devaluation....and like taxes FF program devaluations are a certainty in life.

So, all things being equal I'll be 400SCs short of P1 at my membership anniversary - Oct 31 (~12 weeks away)
Considering that:-
  • I am based in CBR (so about half of my trips are Qlink with no oppourtunity for op-ups)
  • Most of my travel is in Dom Y (maybe 2 J international trips a year),
  • Have 400K points to burn.
  • I have easily reached the 2700SC on QF

Is it worth a final push using the points (in a Points plus Pay arrangement) to get to P1?

I note that Points plus Pay is possibly the worst way to use points, but I have no other plans for them, and I don't really want to spend anymore cash getting to P1...

Cheers
Rory

Well, after a few unexpected work trips I tripped over the line 2 weeks ago, can't say I've got high expectations.....

Welcome to the club Ol chap.

Your smoking jacket and pipe is in the mail, and don't forget the secret handshake must remain a secret ;)

As much as it gets bagged I can only say I will be genuinely sorry to lose P1 status next year. On the whole I have been well looked after and enjoyed some excellent service. (There will always be the odd cough up but that is true anywhere.)

I hope you enjoy the benefits. :)
