To Tattoo or Not To Tattoo

NO!!, getting a tatoo was & is on our 27 & 24 year old off-springs list of "dont do, or incur the wrath of mum" since they were kids.
1. Dont do drugs
2. Dont get pregnant (unless planned)
3. Dont get a tatoo
4. Dont do anything that would bring the police to our door.

So far they have made their parents proud.

Have started the same mantra in our household with items 1 and 3 .... won't be long before we have to introduce items 2 and 4.

A few people here need to look at the thread posts and maybe chill a little.

It is not attacking for either side of the discussion to state what their opinion is and what they personally feel about something.

Earrings / body piercings no problem - take them out and the whole grows over in no time - but tattoos so damn ugly.

What about those huge ear-lobe ring things, that stretch the lobe? Surely when you take those out you need surgery on the lobe don't you? That's got to leave a mark.

Seriously at my office (200 head-count software firm) there was a time when I wondered if it was a requirement for our Reception staff to have a full sleeve. One girl had both areas on her upper chest (just above her breasts) done with large tatts. I must admit she looked pretty hot though, in that 'mischievous' sort of way. We even had a girl in Sales who had biceps and calves done and she still managed to meet her Sales target selling our product to what you would describe as a very conservative customer base. However there is another young lady I work with who is attempting to climb the corporate ladder (by any means possible, BTW). I've noticed lately her wrist and forearm tatts are 'fading'. I suspect laser. Yep, this girl will do anything to get another rung up.

I did kinda mean standard earrings as we know them - ear lobes pierced with small holes as opposed to mutilation as you describe.

I think some NZ cabin crew have them, can't recall where I saw that.

Also, I went to a trendy restaurant the other night where I was the only one not inked... I reckon the staff even had them, some places it complements the look and feel.

Personally, I'm not a tattoo fan, but my sister has a few and my mother has one. It doesn't bother me that they do. I think the watercolour tattoo's you can get these days are awesome, but I just don't have the desire to wear some art on my body at this stage in my life. No suggestions for the Red Roo please

I think the issue these days is people tend to think their opinions give them the right to impose them on others. There are many issues that spring to mind that aren't relevant to this thread. I wonder when we as a society can move forward enough to give people free will to decide what matters most to them. What to pierce, where to ink, who to love...

No tattoos here, though I'm certainly not against them. Just never found a design that I wanted on me permanently.

I do, however, have a scar that is the result of being branded by a cattle brand about 8 years ago. It didn't even seem like a good idea at the time, so I did it anyway

As someone who has stretched their lower ear piercings on both sides, I can confirm that whether surgery is needed to fully close the lobe is one hundred percent dependant on the person, I've had friends who have had their ears stretched to more than 25mm(diameter) that have decided they no longer want their lobes stretched or in some cases needed them closed due to joining the navy and they have successfully just removed the jewellery and it has closed completely.

I don't see how stretching my ear piercings or anyone doing it for that matter is "mutilation", its a body modification that can be completely reversible one way or another.

I just know I would regret anything that permanent. I remember when it was an idea to get the eyelids tattooed instead of just using eye liner. Boy, those unsteady hands made a mess of some peoples eyelids.

Tattoos do play an important part in self esteem with cancer patients and restoration of disfiguration.

I saw one recently on a female VA or VX (can't remember which one) cabin crew member. It was on the inside of her wrist and was attempting to be covered with makeup and her watch. I was actually more interested to try and determine was the tattoo was, because of the attempted cover up.
