My understanding is that it means you don't have to pay the credit card booking fee on the VA website if the voucher is for the whole amount (or more) of the fare

To further expand on this, if you buy a voucher and it doesn't cover the full amount, anything less than $50.00 will not attract the $7.70 fee charged by virgin.

thanks Lizzie! I can buy wish vouchers through my company at 5% discount, but have to EFT them, else there's a 2%+ credit card surcharge which eats into the discount pretty quickly. Sounds like a winner!

Keep the voucher value below the value of the airfare.

That's not the case from my experience. As soon as you have any amount left over to pay with credit card the booking fee is levied.

I now try to run down the remaining balance on a voucher to a very small amount. I have left $0.79 and $2.51 on my last vouchers and will try to do the same to the current voucher.

So what you're saying is let's say you buy a $800 voucher and the airfare is $820 therefor $20 needs to be paid with a CC and you get charged the $7.70 fee?

Can you use another voucher to make up that assumed $20 or is it one voucher per booking?

Almost certain one voucher per booking although I can't find this on the basic T&Cs on the EB website. Valid for 12 months

A Booking and Service Fee applies to credit and debit card bookings per Guest per booking when the payment amount is over $50AU

That's taken directly from the payment page when booking a flight -- so if you got charged the $7.70 fee and the transaction was under $50.00 then call them up and get that fee either refunded or put into travel bank.

I had to call them up last year to get that fee refunded and they just put the refund into my travel bank.

Ok good. So if I'm understanding this correctly, one buys the EB which then allows the purchase of vouchers with a 5% discount on face value (ie a $100 voucher for $95). That can then be used to pay for fares (even with a promo code applied) and provided the voucher covers the fare to within $50 with a CC top up to the full fare, no CC fee is paid. Also one voucher can be used for multiple fares (do they have to be bought at the same time?) but 2 vouchers cannot be used to make up one fare.

Yes that is correct. Only one voucher per booking though (Which sucks as I've got three x $1.~~ vouchers left)... Yes voucher can be used for multiple fares, no they don't have to be bought at the same time, but of course the vouchers do expire so yeah.

That sounds right (though I'm not 100% certain of the $50 aspect)

That is what it tried to do to me. As soon as you click on credit card for the remaining balance it levies the $7.70 surcharge.

After this finding I make sure I have multiple vouchers at any one time and try to run them down as close as possible to zero balance and they can keep the rest.

No joy with that I'm afraid. The flight to AKL is on VA metal but then there's NZ flights for the rest (NSN and back). Maybe also because it's January? I can get pretty good prices for the flight back but not over.

Voucher has to cover fare. If credit card is used you will pay booking fee.

I have found buying $600-$1200 worth of vouchers on one voucher works best for me. Also good to have more than one voucher with credit so you can decide which voucher you will use. I try to run the voucher as close as possible to $0.00 and let unused value expire.

TSV has just reported in another thread that the EB offer is now limited to one voucher per book (max $1000)

That's annoying. Doesn't cover the price of the book. BTW, does it matter which method of book buying....electronic or paper?

PS - Can you give a link to the other thread please, as I'm not sure which one it is?
