Hi and welcome to AFF. For your New York trip this will be of assistance.
If you have any questions after reading it feel free to post specifics and we'll see what we can do.
Also, it would be good to hear from you when you've actually completed your trip and see how well the community's advice served you.
I have read good things about the Big Apple Greeter service-unfortunately I didn't become aware of it early enough prior to our visit. I used a similar service when we went to Chicago & really enjoyed getting the perspective of a local
Thanks , your mentioned contntes are really helpfull , i am reading all one by one and ask there if needed .

The Greeter is free, but they ask for a donation on their website, the greeter will not accept money. Say $20-50. I met mine at around 1030 am and we went all over Brooklyn and Roosevelt Island. It was a great experience and a relief to for one day have someone else make all the decisions on how to get places and where to go. It's kind of expected that you would shout them a drink and cake or a sandwich when you stop for a bite. My greeter was a lovely easy going person who stayed with me until about 6pm. I have read that when you request a greeter, the less prescriptive you are, the more chance someone will volunteer. Also, be fullsome on the application on what your interests are in general.
Also, I did a 'Free Tours by Foot' where you tip them at the end at say around $20 per head. These people are often doing it out of the love of their city, and are great travellers themselves. I did the 8pm night tour to see the lights. You always learn a lot of interesting things from a native New Yorker. Do the tours early in your visit so that any info and places are new to you.

We used B.A.G. years ago. Great service and costs you bugger all. Tell them where you'd like to go and they'll take you there.
Costs, shouted the guide lunch and a coffee or two and that's about it.
